İnhibition Of Lipoxyganase By Some Plants
Plants have been used for the treatment for many years. Although folk medicine has taken place of synthetic medicine, in many parts of the world, usage of natural and plant sourced alternative shows an increase.
LOXs exist in many plants and bascterias. LOXs, as being a basic target in medicine design, become important for showing inhibitory effect in tratments of cronchial asthma, inflammation, cancer and autoimmune diseases.
The indication of negative and positive parts via searching these altenatives as scientifically will shed a light on determination of pharmaceutical active ingredient. In this study, the effects of extracts, prepared from vary plants, and pharmaceutical active ingredients on the enzyme inhibition of LOX which is participated in leukotriene metabolism were investigated.
In our study, it was determined that plant extract which inhibates LOX mostly has been found as permission. The inhibitory effect of atorvastatin, a pharmaceutical active ingredient, has been found as having the highest inhibitory effect.
It was determined that sodium selenate, one of the inorganic substances, and ascorbic acid, fish oil, phloridzin and salisilic acid, from organic substances, have a higher inhibitory effect than other chemical substances on LOX.
According to the results we obtained from our study, plant and chemical substances shows different inhibitory effects on LOX.
