Study Of Contaminant’s Removal From Olive Mill Wastewater
Our country is the fifth largest oliveoil producer and also fourth largest country for producing tabe olive. Although oliveoil production is most important for our country, while its production process oliveoil mill wastewater has significiant impact for the environment. Both olive and oliveoil have polyphenol which is natural antioxidant. Despite polyphenol is benefit when it is in the olive, when this chemical is charging the environment, it has lots of bad impact, so that the examinations are increasing.
In this work, removal of oliveoil mill wastewater polyphenols was examined with adsorption method. According to particular size three type of active carbon was used. Effect of adsorption process was examined with amount and time contact of adsorban and temperature. Phenolic concentration was determined with UV Spectrofotmeter and phenol presence was determined with FTIR.
Active carbon which has the smallest particular size provided best phenolic removal with 51% value. This result matches with literature examinations. In temperature sweeps, it was observed that when the temperature increase, adsorption capasity also increase.
While comparing the all of the test results with three types of active carbon; all of the results support Freundlich Adsorption Izoterm. While the active carbons which have large particular size, support first degree of kinetic model, powder active carbon support second degree of kinetic model.
