This course is primarily concerned with the application of international law in the context of the protection of human rights and the development of democracy with special reference to cases in Asia. Bearing in mind that any type of law, including international law, can only effectively function and be genuinely meaningful insofar as it can be applied to real cases for constructive resolution, this course will consider areas such as human rights and democracy against the backdrop of Asia. For this purpose, this course will examine the international legal foundations for human rights and democracy upon which difficult and complex cases in Asia will be seriously investigated.
