The rich folklore samples of Azerbaijan have been collected and preserved since ancient times. Much of this work has been conducted unsystematically until the sixteenth century and the collected materials are preserved in various manuscripts. This work was relatively systematized during the period of 16th-18th centuries. The collection of folklore became widespread after the nineteenth century and the journal of SMOMPK which was published in Tbilisi played a special role in this field. This article provides information on the collection, systematization and partially on publication of Azerbaijan folklore until the twentieth century.
