The law of honor: in the epos and in the novel
Summary
The article studies the novel “Snow Passage” (“Garli Ashirim”) by Farman Karimzada in the comparative context with the epics of “Kitabi Dada Gorgud” and “Koroglu”. A specific attention is paid to the role of national epic traditions for the novel being confirmed as a “world model”. The epic heroes are contrasted with the heroes of the novel. The act of worship to the “law of honor” which is regarded as the most important in the nature, acts and way of thinking of the novel heroes is generalized as the argument deriving from the epic traditions and ultimately proving that the ethnical memory still survives in the national thinking.
