5 Write an email about a celebration or a visit to 
a theme park, an amusement park, or a carnival.
• 
Students write their email in the space provided. 
Encourage them to begin with a brief description of the 
event (where it is and who they went with) and then 
describe what they did, in a similar way to Tara in her 
email. Encourage them to use adjectives to talk about 
how they felt. They use their completed chart from 
activity

4 to help them.
Ending the lesson
• 
Write the following verbs from the text in the
Student’s Book on the board: 
make, enter, build, grow, 
enjoy, have. 
Then write a list of nouns/phrases below 
the verbs: 
flowers, a competition, fun, a work of art,
a float, working togethe
r. Students match each verb to 
a noun or phrase from the text. Elicit answers and ask 
students to make a sentence with the complete phrase,
e.g., 
People make a work of art from wire, paper, and 
flowers for the parade.

The Flower Parade in Zundert, the 
Netherlands, takes place in September. 
It’s famous for its fl oats, which 
are made of fl owers. You can see 
fantastic animals, people, buildings, 
motorcycles, and even astronauts. Who 
makes these works of art?
Every year, there is a fl oat competition 
at the parade. Twenty villages enter 
the competition, and each village 
makes one fl oat. Most people in the 
village help make their fl oat. The 
younger people build it out of wire, 
papier-mâché, and cardboard, and 
the older people grow thousands of 
fl owers for it. They all work on the fl oat 
for three months during the summer. 
Then, three days before the parade, 
everyone decorates the fl oat with the 
fl owers.
It’s hard work, but the people from 
the village enjoy working together. 
They make friends and have fun, 
and sometimes their fl oat wins the 
competition!
