Right Hand Rule A definite relationship exists between the direction of the lines of force in a magnetic field, the direction of current flow in the conductor, and the direction in which the conductor tends to move. The right hand rule for motors is a useful aid for remembering the relationship: extend the thumb, forefinger, and middle finger of the right hand at right angle to each other. Point the forefinger in the direction of the magnetic flux, with the middle finger pointing in the direction of current flow. The thumb will then point in the direction in which the conductor will move.
