On Wednesday, the Audio Chair presented work on assessing the performance of MPEG-2 AAC Dynamic Range Control (m16659). Kate Grant, Nine Tiles, noted that since this is a tool that is responsive to “user environment,” it would be appropriate to explore whether it could be made available to the MPEG-V work.
On Friday during the Audio presentation, the Convenor noted that the MPEG USAC Reference Encoder software project has fewer contributions that he had anticipated, and had future commitments for only one module. He requested that the Audio Chair draft a Workplan for this software project and emphasised that this software project is an opportunity for companies interested in participating in the USAC standardization work. He further emphasised that this opportunity has a limited lifetime in that development of the USAC standard will proceed in parallel with the software development project. The Audio Chair drafted the workplan during plenary and also drafted a resolution calling attention to the workplan. It is expected that companies will, at the 90th MPEG meeting, be prepared to state whether they are able commit to contributing software modules to this project.
