7.3Summary of discussions

M17272: This contribution follows a contribution presented in Xian highlighting differences in bandwidth consumption between BIFS and LASeR. This contribution proposes captures of X11 exchanges and associated BIFS and LASeR binary representations.

Recommendation: The group should investigate the files and report as part of its mandate.
M17275: This contribution asks MPEG to extend BIFS with a “communication mechanism for the transport of user interaction in the form of mouse events and keyboard input” for collaborative applications.

Recommendation: The group notes the contribution and welcomes industrial interest in this area.
M17269: The contribution emphasizes that the use of ECMAScript to send user interactions back to the server is not suitable for real-time back channel communication. The proponents analyzed previous work in BIFS (Multi-User) and indicate that it would satisfy their needs. The proponents are willing to work actively on it.

Recommendation: the group recognizes the interest in such an issue and proposes to output a TuC document using previous Multi-User technology and describing the new context (collaborative applications).
M17328: Contribution giving electronic attachments (XMT) for the BIFS Digital Radio profile.

Recommendation: Issue a study text and resolution for NB to take this study into account.

M17348: The contribution raises compression problems related to the new nodes because of the BIFS escaping mechanism. The contribution proposes to include the Proto tool in the profile and to limit its complexity by disallowing nested protos.

Recommendation: The group agrees provided that a proper restriction (coding only, no nested) is clearly stated. We recommend issuing a study text and resolution for NB to take this study into account.
