Work toward development of calls for proposals on 3D video coding, MPEG frame-compatible (MFC) scalable resolution enhancement of stereo 3D video, and "Option 1" video coding was conducted under the Requirements subgroup and the developments in these areas are reported in the report of that subgroup.
For 3DV, several technical inputs were reviewed. It was decided to not perform further exploration experiments on prospective non-normative tools such as depth estimation and view synthesis software. As the view synthesis software is required to be used by CfP participants, its usage by tentative non-MPEG proponents needed investigation, which however appears unproblematic as the software was provided under the “normal” MPEG (BSD) license header. The depth estimation software uses parts that are under GPL, such that it is necessary to again make it available under GPL terms.
