| Primary Objective
Provide strategic Human Resource, Workplace Health and Safety direction, leadership, management and advice in the delivery of a responsive and best practice service across the Institute.
Key Responsibilities -
Provide leadership and strategic advice and support on Human Resources (HR) and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) issues to Faculty / Divisional Heads, Head of Corporate Services and Director.

Identify and drive solutions in accordance with the Institute’s Strategic Directions, EBA, Industrial Relations, Workplace Health and Safety, policy and guidelines.

Lead and manage a team providing solutions-focussed /value adding HR/WHS services that align with strategic and operational plans.

Lead and manage the provision of effective HR strategies, policies, guidelines and tools to ensure the Institute achieves maximum operational effectiveness and capacity building.

Facilitates a continuous improvement framework that contributes to the Institutes goals and the provision of information from the various HR information systems.

Actively contribute to the Institute’s Indigenous Career Development and Employment Strategy.

Establish and maintain effective collaborative partnerships and communication, liaison and negotiation pathways with relevant external organisations on human resource matters including industrial relations issues.

Guide the Institute's Work, Health & Safety functions through the implementation and maintenance of the Work, Health and Safety Management Plan that ensures compliance with relevant legislation and Institute policy.
Selection criteria
Essential -
High level knowledge and experience of contemporary best practice in human resource management and operational HR solutions preferably in an educational context.

Proven ability to develop and implement an effective HR service, including policies and programs.

High level of strategic, conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills in HR especially innovative recruitment and retention approaches.

Proven ability to foster productive working relationships in a large agency with diverse cultural and multi-disciplinary employment streams and an ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

High level interpersonal and communication skills, including effective consultation, facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution, counselling and presentation skills.

Demonstrated ability to lead complex and challenging bargaining negotiations in an evolving educational environment.
Highly Desirable:
-
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.

Experience in the tertiary and/or VET area.
Further Information
The role leads a proactive team of six staff that delivers quality services across a broad spectrum of education and training needs of the BIITE Education and Business Units. You will work closely with Head of Corporate Services and Faculty / Divisional Heads to identify and support the implementation of operational HR matters, options and interventions. The preferred or recommended applicant will be required to undergo a criminal history check.
