| November 5th. Guy Fawkes’ Night.
(Britain; not a holiday) Remembering the failure of the «Gunpowder Plot», a plan by Guy Fawkes and others to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605. We’re not having a bonfire (=large fire outside) this year – I’m taking the kids to the fireworks display in the park.

December 24th Christmas Eve.
December 25th Christmas Day.
December 26th (Br.) Boxing Day.
The main public holiday, celebrating the birth of Jesus. People sing carols (=religious songs), houses, offices and public places are decorated, and people send Christmas cards, give presents and wish each other Merry/Happy Christmas! Families gather at home and eat Christmas dinner (in Britain this is traditionally turkey and Christmas pudding).
