Workbook page 53 1 6 Make notes about a kind of technology. Complete the chart about the good and bad things about it. •
Remind students of Robert’s essay on Workbook
page 52. Make sure students choose different kinds of
technology (not cell phones and not the Internet if you
did the
Extension activity for the previous lesson). They
make notes in both columns of the chart.
1 7 Write an essay about the good and bad things about a kind of technology. •
Ask students to look back at Robert’s essay and to
think about the topic of each paragraph (the first is
an introduction to the topic; the second covers all the
good things about cell phones; the third is about the
bad things; and the final part of the essay gives
Robert’s opinion).
•
Students write their own essay in the space provided.
Encourage them to use a similar structure to Robert
and to avoid stating their personal opinion (
I think … )
until the end. They use their notes from activity
1
6 to
help them.
•
Students can read each other’s essays and say which
have the best arguments.
Ending the lesson •
