Presentation of Network "n+i"

A Network of 50 French Engineering Institutions

Network "n+i" is a non-profit making organization created in 1997 under the initiative of the Conférence des Directeurs des Ecoles Françaises d’Ingénieurs (CDEFI).

It is a Consortium of 50 French engineering institutions of higher education (Arts et Métiers ParisTech, CentraleSupélec, INSA (s), Polytech (s), etc.) who share international strategies and have thus chosen to mutualize their international cooperation efforts to attract and welcome high-caliber foreign students.

On behalf of these engineering institutions, Network "n+i" is able to offer individualized attention and high-quality services to a large body of foreign students. Consequently, Network "n+i" fosters connections between French engineering institutions and foreign higher education institutions all over the world. It also allows the former to send their own French students abroad through jointly signed agreements (76 in 33 countries).

Network "n+i" has trained nearly 3 000 engineers coming from the best universities of more than 80 countries, and 35% of them are women.

Network "n+i" offers a complete range of services:

  • A wide choice of trainings: by topic, school, city, status (initial training or by apprenticeship),

  • On-the-spot selection of applicants (MCQ, Interviews),

  • Cultural, Linguistic and Methodological Integration Packages,

  • Assistance, coaching, tutoring and follow-up of the grant holders,

  • Courses of French (and possibly English),

  • Partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Special assitance to students

The network “n+i” services and packages are choosen by the engineering school in order to help the student to be graduate:

  • Package of Cultural integration (PIC)

Welcome and guidance for Network "n+i" students

The "n+i" network representatives plan eveything for the student arrival, administrative formalities and welcome to France:

  • An assistance all along your studies (till graduation), participation to "n+i" events, advices, jobs or internship offers.

A representative of "n+i" will meet student at the airport or railway station and assit you for registrations, opening of your bank account, and to have a tourist discovery of Paris. Phone cards are included in the welcome bag (welcome booklet, proof of insurance, etc..).

  • The "n+i" network will already have taken out a special insurance.

  • Package for linguistic integration (PIL)

PIL is a summer course (8 weeks between July and September) of French lessons for non-French natives (before the engineering training).

During this course, students preferably stay with families to boost their knowledge of the French language and culture.

  • Package for methodological integration (PIM) for masters programmes.

The Package of Methodology Integration provides training on academic methods as well as language training and will help students feel more confident about teaching methods in France.

Lessons are in small groups taught in French but tailored specifically for non French natives. Students are permitted to ask questions in English and receive answers in English and to use study materials in English or their native language.

Students are tutored (one Tutor Professor and one tutor French student) on a one-to-one basis and can seek help with their lodgings, administrative registrations, bank accounts, visas etc. as well as academic guidance.
The PIM programmes are included in GET programmes, Pre masters…

Governance of Engineering and Technological Programmes (GET Programmes)

 This programme offers the possibility to students to spend from 5 months of their Bachelor programme (after the second year) or Master in partnership with French engineering institutions. Lead to 30 ECTS.

The 5-month period in France, fully taught in English, is dedicated to:

  • Courses (2-month seminar of courses/workshops to be trained to become a manager of engineering projects (patents, intellectual property, ethics, data protection and cyber security, standardization, project management, how to communicate? Social network, etc.) useful to any future manager of engineering.

  • Projects works (3 months) with French and foreign students and credited by ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).

 At the end of the International Bachelor programme, the student having an exceptional intercultural experience can thus be offered a wide range of possibilities:

  • Returning home and obtaining a Bachelor thanks to 30 ECTS,

  • Staying or returning in France to complete training with a Master's degree, and then a Post-Master or a Doctorate,

  • Staying or returning in France to complete training with a double Master degree (one from his/her university of origin and one from Network "n+i" member schools, according to the agreements).

 The implementation of an International Bachelor requires the signature of a MOU agreement.

Pre-Master’s Programmes

 Network "n+i" offers to the students who need it, a period of 10-12 months of upgrading courses in language (French and/or English), mathematics, sciences, to prepare them better for their training of Master's degree in France (better chances of success). Lead to 60 ECTS.

The Network "n+i" allows Bachelor holders to complete their training for Master's degrees in science, technology or engineering in France.

Pre-Master has a duration of 2 semesters (one academic year), from September till June, at the end of which the students can integrate an engineering school. It is a unique program.

  • The first semester is focused on courses in order to upgrade the background in math’s, sciences (physic, chemistry...) and on learning intensively French language. During this semester student will be in contact with all schools in order to be recruited by one of them for the second semester and the following 2-year master programme.

  • The second semester is done in the school who has recruited the student for a master degree at the end of the premaster. The student will continue learning French and will be mix with French and international students for tutorials, labs, workshops and even courses. This period is to well prepare the student for the 2-Year master training.

During the pre master, schools will search companies able to offer an apprenticeship programme for the master leading to a full funding of the 2-year training.

The double degrees of Master's

To lead to double degrees, Master's degrees must be recognized "compatible", that is to say that programmes and contents must be significantly close so that recognition of curricula (credits) is possible for the students of both countries.
The university willing to participate in a double degree agreement should:

1. Consult our list of Master degrees programmes (Master's degrees "i" and Master's degrees "n+") proposed by our member schools: www.nplusi.com/program-search,

2. Choose the French Master degrees programmes which correspond to their research fields and requirements,

3. Send to "n+i" the list of the Master's degrees which appears interesting and compatible,

4. Then "n+i" shall put the professors responsible for those Master's degrees in touch with their French counterparts,

5. The two professors (in charge of the Master in each country) will discuss in detail the "compatibility" of the two Masters, the syllabus, real contents of each course as well as research (e.g.: number of hours of courses, tutorials, workshops, research, etc.),

6. If the two Masters, under investigation, are close and compatible, the students will complete a part of the double degree in their country and the other part in France,

7. This recognition will be applicable to foreign students as well as French students,

8. We will publish the list of the compatible Masters in one appendix of the general MOA (called associate MOA),

9. The associate MOA will be signed by each director of the engineering school involved.

Work/study training alternate classroom instruction and work experience
The trainings of engineers are also offered by apprenticeship (50 % of time in a company for students under 26) or in continuous education (for people over 26 years having an experience of more than 3 years). Pre master is the best way to be hired on a full paid alternate training.

Note: Very popular for companies.

Post-Master

 This 12-month programme offers the possibility to the students of foreign establishments to specialize in a specific field of studies after graduated from a Master degree.

 The post-master programme are mainly taught in English

 This period in France is dedicated to courses and internship in companies in order to be better prepared for the world of work.

 Following a Post-Master degree, the student shall have numerous employment perspectives. It has to be underlined that companies often offer scholarships to fund a Post-Master degree as it is an investment to well train their future fellow staff members.

Note: Top training in a specialized domain generally in connection with a company.

Rendez-vous "n+i"

 The Rendez-vous "n+i" is 2-week programme to discover France with a unique cultural and linguistic experience associated with a new insight into scientific, technological and industrial know-how (High Tech, businesses, arts). Lead to 4 ECTS.

Fully taught in English.
Rendez-vous "n+i" programmes inclues:

  • A module of language and culture: initiation to French language classes, cultural activities and visits,
