1371 1934 (Dec 8) England-Australia first regular service, largely commercial range of frankings, highest an "AP/Cº" perfined 18/9d, three scarce 6d postcard rate, 2/6 Seahorses solo (4), etc. Odd fault, generally fine. Cat $75 each. This was an eventful flight, “Aurora” damaged its undercarriage at Calcutta, & “Diana” damaged its tailskid at Camooweal. An interesting subject for an exhibit. AMC cat $2325+. 1372 1934 (28 Dec) inwards airmail cover (opened 3 sides etc) from Madagascar franked Pictorials 1Fr & 5Fr, tied by "Tamatave 28 DEC 34" cds. To Australia, with b/s of Tananarive, Cairo, Nthn Rhodesia & Sydney arrival. Cover delayed in Egypt by bad weather, then engine trouble in Jodhpur, then the "Athena" blown off course & landed 60 miles east of Darwin, where refueled by a Qantas KH71 which was then damaged on take off, with the Athena taking off the next day -the cover finally arrived in Sydney on the 20th of January. Sent by a Senior Lieutenant from the German Raider "Kormoran" that sank HMAS Sydney II. This camp (actually a mansion house) only housed about 50 German officers & their batmen, so mail from here would be very scarce.
