TD S2 160161 (P-CR) Key issue: 3GPP architecture impacts to support network slicing. (Source: Ericsson, Deutsche Telekom, Motorola Mobility, Lenovo, KDDI, ZTE, China Telecom, CATT, LG Electronics, China Unicom, AT&T, Qualcomm Incorporated, NTT DOCOMO, NEC, Cisco Systems, Inc., Samsung).
Abstract: This contribution propose to add a new key issue on Network Slicing framework.
Discussion and conclusion:
It was commented that the first paragraph repeated the definition for Network Slicing which is still under discussion and should be removed from this proposal. Orange asked whether the first bullet includes the resource management for Network Slice. Ericsson clarified that it intends to list what needs to be done in SA WG2 to fulfil the Stage 1 requirements. The bullets under the first should be indented as they are details of the first bullet. It was agreed that a Slice could support multiple access networks and this should be included. This was left for further off-line discussion and revised in TD S2 160711 which was reviewed. Ericsson commented that they should remove the second-last bullet and the part of the third-last bullet from 'where network slice'. InterDigital commented that the terminology for slice was ambiguous. This was further discussed off-line and revised in TD S2 160875. This was left for e-mail approval. Approved.
TD S2 160217 LS from NGNM Alliance: NGMN Description of Network Slicing Concept. (NGMN Alliance)
Abstract: The NGMN Requirements and Architecture (P1) WS1 E2E Architecture has been working on detailing further the concept of Network Slicing presented in the NGMN White Paper. In order to enable SDOs to develop viable standards for Network Slicing there is a need to refine the concept and establish a common terminology for Network Slicing. This would also help actors across the industry to have a common understanding of the expectations and the characteristics of such important concept. NGMN P1 WS1 E2E Architecture will continue working on other guidelines to support standardisation of 5G system and it is our intention to keep relevant SDOs updated on our future NGMN 5G work programme results.
Action: NGMN kindly requests SA WG2 to consider the attached Network Slicing paper as an input to the upcoming study to define the architectural requirements for 5G.
