Колесникович THE IMPORTANCE OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGEIN BANKINGEverybody knows that the English language plays a very important role in every sphere of people’s activities. First of all, it’s a profession. The level of English proficiency differs from one profession to another. In the century of information and the Internet it plays even a more essential role, because who possesses the information possesses the world. Today English has presented itself as the international language of business communication, especially in such spheres as travel, hospitality, engineering and construction, healthcare and banking. So, the aim of the research is to prove the importance of the English language in banking. The main method is a questionnaire survey of 63 third-year students of the banking faculty, who study the English language. Many large corporations organize business English classes for their staff and pay for them. Ambitious students from overseas often wish to study in an English speaking country in order to improve their English and therefore their job prospects. Employers require a high standard of spoken English and a clear grasp of financial vocabulary. English has become one of the key languages of the Internet. Anyone wishing to work with computers or do business online needs a basic command of business English and should be able to spell common words accurately [3]. Generally speaking, good communication skills are the main core of success in any job at all work places; they present the main key to advance on the employment market, so English as an international language and as the basis of communication all over the world highly influences the prospects of employment, especially in assuring the possibility of “more secure” and “better” jobs. Since English is widely spread as a second language in all aspects of life especially economy and commercial banks in particular, the researchers have found it essential to spot the light on the high benefits gained by involving the English language in various banks’ work as a superb communication tool, electronic dealings language and global understanding instrument between nations. Since the English language acts as the vitality of transactions in exports and imports that need documentary credits, letter of credit arrangements, bank guarantees, electronic trade, and mail order shopping, at an age of prosper globalization which proves its importance in banking. All that previously mentioned have led the researchers to recommend the following: – Banks’ administrations should give high importance to the English Language fluency as criteria for choosing bank employees in various fields of work. – There should be English courses sponsored by banks’ administration offered to the employees to increase their ability to use English in communication fluently. – A system of reinforcement for taking these courses and developing English use ability should be accredited and considered as an urgent requirement for the bank [1]. Banks are global and multicultural organizations. Therefore, one will need to interact with people from different countries and different backgrounds on a daily basis. This is why banks, when hiring people, look for a “multicultural” dimension that shows that the candidate will be able to deal with the representatives of different cultures [2]. The authors of the work conducted a research using a questionnaire survey of 63 third-year students of the banking faculty who learn English. The students were offered to answer ten questions. The answers to the questionnaire were analyzed with the following results received: 62 (98,4%) students consider the English language to be important for a modern person; 52 (82,5%) students consider the knowledge of the English language important for a banker; 40 (63,5%) evaluate their knowledge of English as satisfactory; 12 (19%) as excellent and 11 (17,5%) as insufficient; 47 (74,6%) students are satisfied with the level of teaching in the university; 50 (79,4%) students take extra classes; 57 (90,5%) regard the knowledge of the English Language as an advantage over other specialists; 35 (55,6%) know that banks may conduct interviews in English; 13 (20,6%) students took part in trips to the language schools in Poland organized by the university; 53 (84,1%) students used English in practice. Thus, we have demonstrated not only the importance of the English language skills in the banking sphere, which is distinguished by doctors of science, but also the fact that in our university students (future bankers) also highlight its importance and take the study of the language with all their responsibility.
