Implementation of Istanbul University Erasmus Information System by using Service Oriented Architecture

In this thesis, An automated system has been designed and developed by using service-based architecture to provide fast and reliable execution of student activities, who join Istanbul University International Academic Relations Board (UAİK) Lifelong Learning / Erasmus Programme, activities.


Within the scope of Erasmus mobility, outgoing student operations related to exchange process was largely manual.With software application for the Erasmus program that has been developed as a result of this thesis, a higher education program placement, granting, disclaimer, the document dump, a bilateral agreement transactions and all foreign language operations can be carried out. With this software,workload has been reduced and productivity of employees has been increased in UAİK. This system also provides an instant reporting, quick access to information, archiving, time saving ability, reduction in dependence to people and place.
With this automation system carried out as dissertation, the university has a significant financial gain considering the cost of the package software and the cost of periodically update. This software also shows the quality of education provided to students, and it is also important in terms of using our own resources to make production.
The system has been developed in accordance with Service Oriented Architecture -a modern software technology. Today, many business applications consist of over-dependent sub-systems. An amendment to one of the all sub-systems will have a negative impact on the application. This fragile structure makes it diffcult to meet changing bussiness needs and modifications that will be made in the future which leads to very high maintenance costs. In order to increase the reusability, maintenance, and regulations, it is deemed appropriate to develop and design automation system in accordance with service-oriented-architecture.
