experience, and skills to help clients. In this respect, they must be able to update themselves, think about
their problems, and try to improve themselves. Moreover, Cormier and Cormier (1991, p.81) highlight
the intellectual capacities of psychological counselors. Psychological
counselors must be
knowledgeable and people who want to learn constantly. According to the researchers above,
psychological counselors must not lose their curiosity for their fields and be able to develop themselves
continuously.
The statements above refer to the importance of professional development
of psychological
counselors in providing clients with adequate psychological assistance. In light of the explanations, the
purpose of this study is to find out the professional development of psychological counselors. To this
end, we attempted to find out by what means psychological counselors maintain their professional
development, whether they are provided with opportunities for professional
development in their
working life, to what extent they find these opportunities adequate if any, and in what areas they need
to receive a contribution to their professional development.
