2013-2014 School Year
The Journey to Achieving Academic Excellence
Project Excel isn't only a program; rather it's also an incentive that encourages student academic improvement and excellence. Student academic excellence deserves to be encouraged and celebrated in order to assist students in increasing their desire to aspire to new heights! Through Project Excel, parents, teachers and the community gather together to recognize students who are being academically dedicated and successful. Community support is one of the keys to the success of Project Excel. Annually, over 40 local businesses donate discounts and prizes to support this important endeavour.
How does the Project Excel Program Work?
Wainwright High School determines qualifying students based on their overall average in a reporting term. There are a total of 4 terms in a school year, and all students are eligible to receive a card each term.
Gold Card: The gold card is issued to students on the Honour roll. These students will have an average of 80% or higher. This card offers the student premium discount rates at local businesses and to participate in the annual BBQ and afternoon at the movies.
Black Card #1: The black card is issued to students on the Principal's roll. These students will have an average of 75% to 79.5%. This card offers the student regular discount rates at local businesses and to participate in the annual BBQ and afternoon at the movies.
Black Card #2: Students who are under 75%, can enter into a contract with the school and their parents to increase their marks by a minimum of 5%, can earn a Black Card. Contracts can be picked up from the Project Excel Co-ordinator. These black cards have all the rights and privileges of the regular Black card.

Since its inception in 1992, as the number of local sponsors has increased, the number of discounts and prize donations available for students to earn has also increased. Through these means, many of our adolescents are learning the increased importance of shopping locally. It is the philosophy of Project Excel that
“It takes a village to raise a child.”; and the Wainwright community is the benchmark in that regard. Project Excel and the Wainwright High School acknowledge the tremendous support offered by the members of this community. We truly live in a generous town.
Attached is a voluntary donation form for you to complete and return to Wainwright High School. If it has not been returned by the specified date, you will be contacted via telephone at that time. Thank-you in advance for your generous support of the Project Excel program.
Sincerely,
Alysha Grosky & Mary-Claire Miller
