Dear Friends,

I am very pleased to welcome you in Pavia for this 18^th International Workshop on the Cell Nucleus. It is the first time that the Workshop is organized in Italy, and we hope that Pavia, with its long history in Science, will provide the proper atmosphere for our meeting.

I am quite sure that, once more, this Workshop will represent a moment of fruitful and stimulating discussion between scientists from all over the world, meeting in the spirit that Wilhelm Bernhard left, 25 years ago.
