1. Introduction

The Master of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (EME) is a one-year study program entirely taught in English. This program includes science of materials, structural dynamics, acoustics, electronic devices,…. Emphasis is placed on a variety of subjects such as materials for electronics, biomaterials, nanotechnologies, mechanics, design, numerical modeling, reliability, life cycle analysis, processing and instrumentation, and so on.

This is an interdisciplinary program in Electronics and Mechanical Engineering provided through the collaboration of two Engineering Schools, namely INSA Centre Val de Loire and Polytech’ Tours, as well as the University of Tours.

Research works are carried out by the Laboratory of Mechanics & Rheology (LMR) and the Research Group on Materials, Microelectronics, Acoustics and Nanotechnologies(GREMAN), as well as associate research centers including: CEROC, CERMEL, CERTEMPlus.

Majors in both science and engineering are catered for and close contact with business and industry could be provided through off-campus work assignments through internships. The objective of this program is to produce highly qualified scientists and engineers capable of responding to both industrial and academic environments.

Actually, EME aims at preparing future scientists and engineers capable of taking on major challenges in the following areas:

- Principles of materials/structural dynamic/acoustic sciences to undertake advanced engineering and/or research projects;

- Analysis of a variety of engineering materials (including metals, piezoelectrics, semiconductors, ceramics, polymers, and composites), and the relationships among processing, structures, properties, and performance;

- Modeling and simulation of complex problems, especially those involving both materials and electronic devices, structures interacting with acoustic media, or materials exhibiting a thermo-mechanic behavior.

‘Soft skills’ are an integral part of the course. These include:

- Communication and team-work skills;

- Manipulation of modern engineering tools for modeling, characterizing and analyzing complex systems;

- Sense of responsibility professionally but also towards the society at large including the global context.
Keywords: Materials Science, Advanced Materials in Electronic and Mechanical Industries, Surface Treatment, Modeling, Heat Transfer, Acoustics and Vibrations, Fatigue of Materials, Power Electronics.
