The forest roads provide access to forest resources in carrying out main forestry activities such as protection, afforestation, management, recreation, and fire fighting. The efficiency of forestry activities depends primarily on the presence of healthy and dependable forest roads. One of the main factors affecting the durability of forest roads is the presence of sufficent number of construction buildings at proper locations. Drainage structures are very important for forest roads. The drainage structures used to forest roads are pipes, culverts, bridges and walls.

In this study, experimental area selected as Research Forest of the Faculty of Forestry, Istanbul University. The situation of all forest roads and drainage structures inside study area are determinated. The total data with finished works are collected. This data are analyzed with ArcGIS 9.3 computer programme. Slope and aspect maps are comprised for these study areas. The points of drainage structures and middle basins are designated. Finally, the type and dimensions of drainage structures are compared with present drainage structures in study areas.

In this study, pavement structures activities in a sample forest road section, especially with heavy traffic loads, are examined in various aspects. There are 17 units existing and planned forest roads in research area. The existing forest road units are 14 and planned forest roads units are 3. In total, the current forest road length is 28+718 km and planned forest road length is 6+911 km. Determined as a length of 10+980 km forest road superstructure was completed.

A total of 19 watershed basins in the area and ways to cut over 32 pieces of art determined the need for structure. Total 32 points are determinated in researh area and planned pipe culvert are 84 m Ø60 in 14 point and 60 m Ø80 in 10 points. Furthermore, 3 box culvert and 5 bridge box culverts are planned in research area.
