Kaisetsu (An Explanation)

Shishin to wa Butsuyoka ya Joyoku dake de wanai.

(In the world there should not be selfishness, worldly desire and wanton passion)
One must not let these three hindrances cloud your mind in the making of sound judgements in all things
Yoshiden Yutaken Budo Hiden
The Reason Why Technique is Like a Vehicle

With Two Wheels
From the beginning there is no folly for the man who does not limit himself to exceed the Ten Thousand Fold Path.

Again little by little the utmost care must be taken to learn this wisdom a little at a time. To say one has extensive knowledge or to imply such when in actuality there is more, it is like a faceless face.

In order for one to gain knowledge one would have to join the priesthood in order to get sati+yin.9 results. One must not be shy to enter into this type of art. The reason +or the studying of this field is to gain valuable knowledge. To say what is the right reason is difficult. It is probably best stated as the uniqueness of taking what is good and useful and discarding the rest. More and more we write about what one should attach or detail importance from but the way to study is from directly from the heart. Then after a while the mind, spirit and the body are formed as one.
To want to study the things concerning this Art one must stand ready to under stand the five principles. Use your intellect to be free. To take a sword from an opponent in a circular way is the custom. Using this circular motion you keep the opponent at bay. The reason for the two fold exercises is to keep your, opponent off balance.
Takuan Zenji Cho Fudo Chi Shinmyoroku From the literary works of Takuan the priest. A record of the mysteries and wisdom of the gods.

Translation
What understanding does the ordinary man need to see where the wisdom lays? What is on the surface is not necessarily what actually is. Often times there is insufficient information to the secrets of wisdom, +or the individual to make any rational decisions from.
Lately the idea of entering the priesthood was thought of as a joke. The idea of entering the priesthood was to gain knowledge about everything.
To us as individuals the things we seek we seem not too able to reach. There must be something there because of the quality of the students that are being produced, which today is greater.
The direction to learn then is to enter the priesthood but to do so may not solve anyone’s problems. But through the study of technique one must act accordingly as the heart or the spit it will dictate what one will do. Knowledge of the body must be practiced daily.
Tachi/Dachi Ho (Direction of the Stance) On the stance when for example you’re executing a Hiji Tsuki, the eyes should be fixed in on the hip area this is most important. More information on the stance can be gained on the chapter on Sanchin no Sho and the article on Sanchin Gaiyu. Also Uechi Ryu Karate no Kihon Kata Techniques should be kept in mind also. When moving forward always Utilize the Sanchin Stepping method, always protect yourself. Jushin (Center of Gravity) your center of gravity should be measured by the stance you assume. The center of gravity when moving in Seisan is dependent on certain dynamics. 'The center of gravity should be experimented with to ensure a stable but firm stance. There are certain articles, which deal with that later, on.

To comply with the general reader we must keep these theories and views within the reader’s bounds of comprehension. But there is enough of a time period to read and experiment to satisfy more of the general audience than anticipated.

SEISAN NO SHINTOKU
The title Seisan comes from one of the original Kata of the Uechi Ryu Karate Do Style brought back by Uechi Kanbun from Fukien City in China. The originals 3 Kata were Sanchin, Seisan, and Sanserui. These kata were named for their classical existence. They have not changed even to this day. Seisan in China was originally called (Shisan) and was recorded as such. But today we normally refer to it as Seisan. Seisan's sublimness will always be infinite and when demonstrating this Kata or utilizing it in sparring or actual combat the possibilities are limitless. The whole Kata should be demonstrated with great agility.
The techniques should be swift and crisp. The Kata should in all respects appear very dynamic. Kokyu Ho (Breathing Method) for Seisan is the same as learned in Sanchin. Breathing should be natural.
As you inhale through your, nose you then push the air down into the abdomen. You should hear a definite "Tsu or Sss" coming from the mouth. The effect should be kept as noiseless as possible. Ensure your breathing pattern is set up so you do not run out of breath and become tired when exercising. Also nausea can set in if your breathing pattern is not set.
Always use the prescribed breathing method. Gammoku (Gaze) The gaze or the use of the eyes should always be focused on what is in front of you.
This is especially important if you are turning to a kick or thrust. Do not watch your hands or your feet. This is very important.

However as the Seisan Kata progresses up to the knee strike and also after the Chisai Kobushi Boshiken Gedan Tsuki is applied as a strike behind the ear, the extension of the gaze should be on the target rather than on the hand that is striking. One should train to watch the opponent rather than the users striking hand or foot. In Jiyu Kumite and Yakusoku Kumite, the same principle of the gaze applies. You must watch your companion or opponent and not how you or he is striking. This way you will be able to read the attack and defend yourself better. It is important for the opponent that you always have him in your sight at all times. Again do not fix your eyes on any one point but view it 11 and react accordingly. The average line of vision of a Budoka will probably be the same as yours whereas his eyes are fixed on YOLW complete body also so a stalemate might occur as to who will react first.

Foot Positioning
A long legged person when stepping in the Sanchin stance has some definite advantages. By always keeping heel to toe alignment your stance will always be stable. By following these simple rules your stance will develop for you into something of great use or strength.
The feet have to be coordinated to be able to apply this circular type of stepping. And will help develop good balance.

Yori Ashi wo Okonau Tokoro (A feature of foot placement)
The Seisan Kata when practicing need not be limited in space. A fairly large area should be utilized. To begin with the double Boshiken Strike to the head then retracting and following up with three Boshiken Strikes to the face. The foot positioning stays the same as learned in Sanchin. Then the front to rear hand strikes to the groin and stepping also remains the same.
Then pivoting 180 degrees and repeating one more and stepping forward on the same left foot the stepping action remains the same. Then when executing the right Sanchin thrust and the three block and strikes the foot positions remain the same again.
One must drill the body to be swift in movement during any of the Kata. In Seisan when you’re actually using it for fighting purposes stay with the basics. This way through repetition you polish yourself. Speed will come eventually try not to run through the Kata. But provided that you have mastered the Kata, when in action you can practice certain techniques with speed of delivery. This at times is a good training technique. The correct way for the Kata to be done and to properly train the body is to follow a slow steady course. This way I believe you will achieve more in the long run.
Anything Can Happen In an Opponents Mind

Make Him Think What You Want To Draw Him Out
 Gain Information from The Pillow-
To gain information from the Pillow one must perceive what the mind is contemplating. The key to the way of victory or defeat in Heiko comes from the pet son. It depends on the per sons physical makeup.
So now the opponent can say the same, or think the same way. He will be trying to analyze his opponent’s mind to perceive his next move. In the Art of War (Heiko) to stop the mind is to loose. This is what others look for. To say that most of ones ideas come from the pillow may be true.

To acquire knowledge to defeat an opponent this way one has to know more than just superficial knowledge. One has to know how he operates, how his opponent’s mind operates and what he does day by day.

For example to say your going to cut an opponent, or I wonder if I will cut the opponent, two different thoughts, two different characters. But all thoughts are done with the same mind. This may be true if both individuals are of the same caliber. An opponent who practices technique and has a good mind-set is a formidable opponent. Then one must get to know the opponent a little better to find his weak spots. This is from the Heiko or Art of War. The whole idea is to try to make your opponent timid.
The future of an individual or Bushi depends on how well he excels in learning technique. One has to strive always to attain some sort of level of perfection.

A strong will is needed also to make one not to give up, but carry and always be strong in Mind, Body, and Spirit. You must always test yourself. Your future lies in how you conduct yourself.

Another way of judging and opponent is to watch his breathing pattern.
Generally in the art of war the way to victory or defeat is get your opponent to divide his energies this will be a benefit to you if the desire is strong enough and the spirit strong enough any enemy can be defeated. Therefore when an opponent shows his intentions he is giving YOU Valuable clues to his downfall.
But who makes the first move? This cannot be overlooked. It must be acted upon.
That is why in Bugei the opponent or, person that strikes first decides the battle or, contest. This idea is a hard one to cope with let alone understand.
To stop the flow of information from an opponent and make use of it is to ensure you some kind of foothold. This is another tool from the Art of War. To openly read opponents spirit is another  useful tool. To stop an opponent before he acts is also ideal.
To not develop these attitudes would prevent you from effectively dealing with an opponent.
If an opponent for example starts a movement which will we name (Ka) this is for, the first move. If conditions stay the same, the opponent goes to his second move, which we will call (To) and if the conditions remain the same he will move onto the third character (Ki). This is a tolerable attitude but it should not be used very often.

If an opponent were to use this type of methodology in war it may not work. This is for the simple reason that if his opponent is smarter and quicker, he will achieve Sente and gain the upper hand and possibly win. That is why there must be freedom of movement with no set pattern. Let the mind body, and spirit to guide you. This point is most important.

It is correct that you are trying to restrain your opponent or check him in a way where it’s almost passive in nature. It depends also on the circumstances. So now which is to be the Art of War to go step by step with an opponent or have the freedom of technique with no set manner? The freedom of technique would be used to draw an opponent out easier I believe. It also depends on the state of things around you during a conflict. That is why it takes an expert to determine these things. By not tempering or forging your spirit and by not incorporating the proper, br eathin.9 techniques you have nothing.
(Kaisetsu)
Do not loose the chance to take your, opponent in a conflict. To take one by force does not normally work. Victory or defeat is all centered on proper breathing techniques. This is the core. This is something tangible that can be controlled. When this is done you will have achieved something of greatness.

Yoshiden Hoden Budo Hiden Sho

Tokukan Shoten yori
There is no victory in the weak

You must be soft and gentle to win.
Before an army attempts to weaken a whole country one must be prepared for the attack. But, it is not accomplished by attacking in force so if one uses his skills and talents, victory can be achieved. This is a more formidable solution. The idea of strength and weakness to which it may or may not achieve peace is not the way.
Peace can be achieved only by utilizing your inner strength. To act otherwise would be to act in ignorance. This is not a path, which would benefit the whole country.
ROSHI (Lao Tse)

One must not become weak when one sees their country crumbling. One also must not use brute strength when attacking a problem. One must use their talents wisely in order to overcome hardship and other difficult obstacles.

To learn of weakness and strength of your opponent this is the way to peace and is also a way of gaining victory. The whole country must know this in order to survive.
There are limits on how a country can survive. It must not be done be being lazy at  timid. There are some who think that the hard hand will frighten an attacker. This is also a way that will not work.
In other ways there are changes, which could bring about a different set of results. To be flexible in all things and yet have a hard hand is ideal. To overcome a weakness this is the hardest to achieve.
All people must realize that to have such abilities one must work diligently.

Sanseirui Shintoku

The Spirit of Sanseirui

Kata no Tsuite

About the Kata
1. Sanseirui from the Chinese style was written and pronounced as San Shi Liu. The Japanese style of pronunciation is normally Sanseryu. Sanchin and Seisan also had other Chinese names but, the above three names are acceptable from the Head of the Uechi Ryu Karate Do, Uechi Kanbun. These names were derived directly from Fukien Province in China in the city of Fuuchow.

The eight Uechi Ryu Kata, which comprise the Uechi Style, are Sanchin, Kanshiwa, Kanshu, Seichin, Seisan, Seirui, Konchin, and Sanserui and when one is initiated into this style these are their Kata. One always starts with the first Kata and works toward the last it is the way only to begin.

2. Sanserui as used in the Art of War and hypothetically it was designed to cover all eight sides from which an opponent can attack. The techniques that evolve from this Kata are a mixture of straight lines and circular movements. This Kata can produce outstanding results and when practicing this Kata one should pay close attention to their dynamics.
The nature of a posture for example Neko Ashi Dachi, certain aspects of this stance like eye fixation, placement of the hips, are important in order to move with swiftness. Some lines for example may require slow movement like speed, strength, or fluidity of movement and should blend into a whole. A look of peaceful strength should be exhued by the user. The user should also feel the reality of extreme splendor that this Kata can provide.
Therefore, in Uechi Ryu Karate Do the existence of Sanseirui exemplifies the styles ancient past. The secret of the Uechi Ryu Karate Do style is in the three classical or original Kata. From these one is initiated into the style all the way up to the San Dan level.
The principle idea is not to limit yourself to certain levels but to go as high as you can in learning technique and in developing the mind, body and spirit triad. A disciple of Uechi Ryu Karate Do must consent to start from the first Kata and perform it flawlessly and after a certain period of time move on to the next Kata.
3. Sanchin, Seisan and Sanseirui are the three original Chinese Kobushi Ho no Kata. There are many deep traditions and customs associated with these three Kata. The perfection of these Kata will be up to the individual Shugyo-Sha.
The order does matter in which they are practiced. There are various religious meanings associated to each of the three Kata. The real meanings are deeply rooted and one must unearth them, in order to understand their true meaning. The whole style is based on these three Kata. One must ask about the poses that one sees in this book. The names used are from the Chinese Kobushi Ho no Kata.
Even with the limited information we have provided here one cannot help but wonder as to the true meaning intended for these movements.
Geri ni Tsuite
Part II About the Kicks
1. To utilize the kicks in the Kata one should stretch the hips and knee muscles properly. Also the ankle muscles will be stretched and strengthened. From the back, when the hips are thrusted forward properly the muscles of the buttocks are also stretched. The reaction to the use of this kick when the knee is raised with the foot pointed downward toward the floor, is one in which the foot will have a tendency to point Out rather than down.
This pointing down will strengthen the ankle and lower leg muscles. In Karate the sound that we produce when working out should be the sound of no sound. The look in the eyes must be that of swiftness. The truth to your intentions must not be seen. Most of all in a Shiai do not loose contact with your opponent. On occasion it is done but if done at the wrong time the results could be disastrous.
On occasion when your opponent breathes improperly you will be able to detect it. The opponent being caught of guard you attack. It is important to work with this during sparring or actual combat. Timing is all-important. To be to early or to late could also be disastrous.
Also especially when using energy and strength these often dissipate if proper  timing and breathing techniques are not utilized. You then become powerless against your opponent.
When in a position for kicking, the muscles should be stretched properly. Then when kicking in a Sanchin posture the kicking leg will get exercised properly. Timing again must be utilized properly without haste in order to gain from it. To practice this Uechi Ryu kicking method in this posture ensures your stability and center of gravity is in place.

When executing a kick, if the lead foot is forward and the hands in the Sanchin Kamae the fingertips of both hands should lined up fingertip to shoulder  and finger tip to toe.

When using kicks of this type (i.e., Shomen geri in an encounter one must know before the situation because as this kick is developed it has devastating power. Always check your form and again it cannot be emphasized enough in the power that this kick has. There is no way to calculate though the destructiveness of this kick. The user can only gauge it.
Form, power and speed, are the three key things to remember when utilizing this kick. This will help you get the most out of this type of technique.
Make use of the striking areas of the hand for example fingertips, feet, and the toes. One will have to endure a lot of conditioning. This type of conditioning is not impossible to do. One must use certain conditioning tools to toughen certain parts of the fingers, and the feet. A stout board is suggested. One must practice with it daily to achieve any results.
The hands and the feet and each finger and toe should be worked on not just one or two. One must forge a good attitude in order to discipline the Mind, Body, and Spirit. From this then the attitude one will change and all areas of the body will get developed properly.
