CHUI #4

---SOHEI or Soldier Priest---
Buddhism or Buddhists had their protectors who were versed in martial or military arms in the art of war and formed special monk or priest groups. They had temples specifically set aside for this task.

Since the middle of Yamato's warring era they ruled their country in fiefs with soldiers who had special arms and the background to do so. With this in place Yamato was considered a mighty military power. But those times were violent with many belligerent groups or people wandering the countryside. Hence comes the soldier priests of the Kozen-Ji who well trained and self were reliant like military priests Toseika, Tosei Junkyo, Shokuden and Hoshinka.

These were chief planning ministers within the priest’s clan. There were those who were involved in military and in military operations like Shoso Chosei, Hoshinka, and Jikishi. They all worked for an operations Chief under the Tokugawa clan and Hizen Tozen and were 40,000 strong. Kozen-Ji's Jizamurai who replaced Tokugawa successor was famous in the art of war or the soldier way.
These groups thrived even as late as the Taisho era. They had another base of operations at Kofuku-Ji another famous temple. Since the Middle Ages these warring groups rose and fell. But they had a cohesive force that could mount a large amount of military hardware and people on short notice. The Kozen-Ji and the Kofuku-Ji were both under the Tokugawa area of power.
At any one time they could muster 5,000 to 20,000 warriors to field any problem that might occur. This was in affect until the Daimyo class came about for these groups.

The temple headquarters was reigned over by a one Tatsuchu Shiun. Before and after this time the Chief Priest was Hosoin

---HYOSOIN KAKUZEN BORYU IN INEI (1521-1607)---
Hosoin was a priest at Kofuku temple in Nara city Japan. It was considered a 33 stone temple. Originally Kofuku-Ji was considered a read seal temple consisting of 21, 000 stones in which inside the precincts the priest’s quarters numbered 40 or more. The remainder was housed in the main temple.

One a spring day the monks celebrated in remembrance to their gracious deity thru the auspicious of their chief monk. This was done regularly to honor the temple and its inhabitants.

Another priest In Inei who was a Chinese monk and another person named Hosoin Insho whose grandfather was Chugomon Satsuma Intei. His fathers name was Danba Inei. At that time Inei was a popular name. His son studied Shonson Ryuto Kenjutsu under Josen Shikoni. This style was under the auspicious of the Shinto Ryuto Kenjutsu Taisei who master was Mokushungen. He also studied Kokan-Ryu Kenjutsu under Joden Daizen Taifuseichu.
One night In Inei with a spear in hand during the 3rd day of the full moon was looking for someone while others were in their deepest sleep. In a vision he saw ten characters. These ten characters resembled a hooked spear. From this vision he developed his own spear style.
At that time he was a pupil of Chuson-Ryu whose founder was Chuson Shiyo Eimon Shusei or as noted by the Chinese as Fukuiweihan.
There lineage started with the Koden Ha or Koden Group whose founder was Koden Hyuei Ekitsuji (Shosohan), then on to ShokiJoyu Eimon (Nohonhan), then to Jukosho Byoji Rokomo (Sagahan), Kinshun Shichiro Shisho (No no Konshin Ryukagen).
Late in life Inei became a Buddhist priest teaching the martial arts at a temple honored for Kwannan goddess of mercy.

---KUMA NO GONGEN---

(INCARNATION OF A BEAR)
In Wakayama Prefecture in an area known as Kiihancho no Nantan which is at the northern tip of Nantan is considered hallow ground by many religious people. In Wakayama there are many such places especially Toborugun Nachiro no Shinkikan or places of mysterious influence.
In this mountains north of Wakayama there are many mysterious beliefs and myths associated with this area.
During the Heian era in this area there was an esoteric Buddhist religion known as Mikkyo, which was very popular. Two priests were involved in this religion one known as Rosan and another known as Yoshino. There were two big peaks in this area, which were lined up side-by-side, and the same in size and girth. This was also sacred ground. This is it is said is where the gods reconcile all matters in life. The areas were named:
Honkyu--Shojiyoden (Katogoshishin)

Shinkyu-Sokugyokyu (Goshi Sokuryoshin)

Nachi no Ketsukyu (Noyafushi Bishin)

In those days the class or ranking were imperial personages attendants and below, and then priests who practiced either Shintoism or Buddhism. They were allowed to use three special Shinto shrines in the area to practice their art. During this era there was a blind court musician who entered the priesthood and took eleven others with him to change their lives through the incarnation of Buddha.

They’re many who pilgrimaged to this are to learn one or the other of the religions. Some were noblemen others were commoners. They were all seeking a priest Noyakei who it was thought to be an incarnation of Buddha.
In this area there was an abundance of shrines for both religions and the majority of the people were Sohei or warrior monks.
The monks played a big part in this areas history especially during battle between the Genji & Heike clans and one priest in particular Gengikei who was said to be enormous in stature. He also took part in the riots of Kyoto. Another priest Go-shi Sendatsu started out his fame as a warrior priest and believed in both Shintoism and Buddhism. Both were considered Shugendo or mountain aesthetics.

It is believed that these two monks went to Okinawa and formed a group at a shrine called Noyasha. It is said then that Okinawa had eight large Shinto shrines and eight smaller ones dedicated to Buddha.

Monshoku no Yu Shorin Ki

(Historical account of the Crest of the Flying Phoenix

Shorin-Ryu)
Born to rise and carry the seal of the west and bring about the 25 reasoning’s of the Shorin. In the existing peaks o mountains they say lies a door to a small temple. In this temple lies the reason for Shorin. From this small temple in this large peak are nine smaller peaks in which are a similar number of rooms in which one can seek information. To the north is much larger temple it is one days march. On the journey one only allowed a robe and rice bowl.
To possess anything other than that one will lose sight. One must have one oar to guide by as a wise once said.
Many have lined up at the precipice to enter few are chosen. One once chosen must ascend the mountain in the wintertime and ascend to the main temple. One must while ascending think of playing a musical instrument less you get distracted and fall like an arrow. Look not askance while ascending less you get distracted disaster will follow.
One will see a stone monument on the ascent. One must stop and polish this monument. The ways of nature are that of a priest that is the law. Carry the word with you always and pass on to all that you meet. This is the way of Daruma Dai-Shi. Always look for the Manchu who presents the counter fist.

Even though these words are difficult one must know how to stand. Then ascending west then north one will come upon a hermitage of an ancestor. Study the shadows the wall carefully for there will appear a face. Many of the priests are two stone tall but there many white barbarians in robes that look like priests who tower over most. What do they seek their God our savior.

The barbarian ways are strange as probably they think our way is also. In the caves beyond are many other caverns. It appears it would have taken the strength of one hundred to do this work. The military fear the priest like a heat or poison. One asks how can so much beauty exist here silence. Always rub the lantern in praise to the founder Daruma. Give alms and water to the parched as you come upon them. Always watch out for fellow priests especially ones carrying stick, sword or spear. Watch these with weapons much can learned.
Ride no the palanquin but march on foot with rice bowl and robe to the ancestral heritage. Once there you will know where you are. Always carry a proud countenance one had soft one hand hard good negates bad. Of the founders heritages there are four. In the hermitages is a table of copper with two words inscribed: “Myself and the Stone”. To the right of the hermitages stands the spirit of right as it views the valleys beyond. Once in a mansion always speak in a refined manner. Speak in a commanding voice but yet not scorching. Refine and polish you class as you do your spirit.
Nature speaks to those who listen. Much virtue is in nature. Return to the true path. This is the one who understands the true law. In the middle of the night compose a poem it is the quietest time in the mountains. Nature indications are many. Be like a green glass with no possessions empty of thought. Being in this lofty seat one can smell all of China from such a place. This journey may take days, weeks, months or eons never give up. The smallest room can hold much information.

When one stands after the lotus one will feel like the King before. Perhaps even a returning visitor can learn more the deer said.

KAISETSU

(An Explanation)
Chinese Shorin-Ji Kobushi-Ho or Kenpo is a one of a kind martial art with a blending of religion develops special physical, mental and spiritual attributes. Of the Chinese styles Kobushi-Ho stands out among most of the 18 major Chinese arts in that some Taoists have blended the occult or magic into this art. Thus the Sennin or Taoist Wizard. This addition made the art even more formidable. This art was demonstrated from time to time in the old days with one objective in mind a showing of an ancient and odd or eclectic martial art with amazing abilities. One such Sennin was one named Reigo who once gave a demonstration reluctantly. He moved in out of the shadows and into the light with such amazing speed and agility striking and kicking left and right with such precision and speed all were stunned who witnessed this demonstration.
Mastery of this art is one of a kind person. To have developed ones body physically, mentally and spiritually is a test of ones talent. There hands were dual edged o be able to take a life if necessary or save one was in their ability. Once enacted in self-defense it was noted that it was almost impossible to dissuade him to cease especially in battle. He took on others more formidable armed with sword, spear, ax, or chain and took them apart one by one. They could find openings on a person where none were to be. It was said they created their own battle and knew the outcome. They were fearless void of thought or outcome.
From a Japanese viewpoint the art of Jujutsu was said to come from China or Shina originating from the Ming era as was recorded in military literature. In old India there was a term narashi which meant development of the bones and muscle through the displacement of power. This technique was a precursor to Jujutsu.
It is said that Shorin-Ji Kobushi-Ho dabbled in Sumo also, which is a one of a kind of art. Daruma noted this in the historical records. Daruma while in India learned this art of Narashi also known as Nara no Bugi. This was a precursor in the development of Shorin-Ji Kobushi-Ho.

There is Shorin-Ji monument, which talks of the Tang Dynasty Founder of a sect of Kobushi-Ho, and its large number of priest one in particular Donshuto. During this time the temple was under government auspicious. Donshu was also a general in the Tang Army He was granted a number of priests to teach the military and martial arts to. This was the beginning of the Sohei or warrior priest sect. These priests once trained demonstrated their martial valor over and over again in battle after battle. After this there were formed five Shorin-Ji clans which were all of the Sohei or warrior priest cast. This monument is to them and is signed in divine revelation Mei no Kishu no Tenki during the 5th year 1625 A.D. mid spring by Antoku Teisho. Shorin-Ji Kobushi-Ho reached out and touched many. This art must be seen it has a certain military bearing to it.

(The appearance of the Shorin monk Kotei)

(Translated from Chinese)
As dawn came about the monks assembled to look for mugwort
The gifted person weeded through the thick grass seeking the herbs
That was year of war and when the Law or gate way came about
The journey was fruitful as three tigers were observed in battle
I thought what would it take to take one down as the light shown

Dawn beckoned should I stay and watch or proceed on my path

The appearance of the monk Kotei in poem form (Cont)

(Translated from Chinese cont)

Suddenly in the dark a shape took form the hut

A gong sounded he stood preparing himself

Through divination he steeled himself for what was to come
He defied all strove forward as sharp and clean as the wind
The Buddhist responded by bending low as in supplication
The truth made him jump just before landing on bone
His instinct was to run but the flood overtook him
The light was forming the mercy of light and the wind
He was on a high precipice at the edge no fear just animal fierceness
He stretched his hand as if a claw using his hand like a wing he struck floating like the dragon
He cut through his opponents club turned and entered the temple
He used the monkey elbow on another then ran like the rabbit
The principle of the plum worked in conjunction with the Kobushi
Swinging on high bringing the opposite poison hand down

Returning to the one the sword dropped in the light

The wave of the hand looked like the sword but it was a mistake run

The lions back looked small all things seemed to weep and shake

In the cave is chest wrapped in fine hair
In the chest that shone like gold was the legend of the fist

Before he stepped his heart felt heavy with weight was there greed in his heart

Oneself is secondary military virtue is first that is what is right now
With this knowledge he could assist and help others
Every fate has its arrival and destination one must carefully choose ones opportunities
The soldier prays to the local deity for justness in his character
Lift one up and scold unjustness insert he mountain meaning to attain justice
Administer the attack with spirit and meaning
The sound of war drum is a blessing the judgment made confirm the prize
The cliffs columns are high and opposing but yet true in spirit which pure and refreshing
There was then the Buddha and flower opening for the first time
The principle is the is the lack of fullness in the fountain

CHUI #8
---Kinchu Shi no Fu Su-Yama Shorin Ki to Enka-Do no Yu

Shorin Ki---
(A Shorin historical account of Kinchu Shi and Enk Do in the floating realm of Su-Yama Translated from Chinese)
A person floats through life with many names but to hold one that is old is dream. There are five reasons in life and thus the five mother’s milk peaks of Su-Yama. We all revel at the face of a young child innocent and pure of spirit.

We know though as old as we are of the sadness of age. Such then through the ability of Shorin we have the path to enact change. To marry to some is the ultimate but ensure that it is classical in nature. Remember the grass knows no grief. Feel the lightness of the founder’s words on you tongue. His grass is the one that is of import. In the evening think of the founder find your place in which your spirit resides.

Govern yet do not fully possess. Be free as floating dream. Be one with heaven and float forever. Follow always the consciousness of the three. Your retainers will be uplifted by your command, which lies in the spirit. Go out and instruct other classes in your art. Peace is only decades away. Approach the mountain region by the river with reverence. One must have the right vehicle to herald in the truth. One must do with the meager things in life in order to draw strength and power from. In the beginning consider the priest who is like bamboo always flexible yet strong of mind, body and spirit.

The mountain waters they say hold strange truths. It is especially true in the summer days. Never be rude or rough but always see the negative with optimize. Always pay tribute to the virtuous king.
Employ a non-aggressive style because all things in life are temporary. Think of the nature of the Korea wind a place where all nature dwells. Avoid the negative and seek to refine the good in all. Listen even to the dry words of all people.
Listen to people’s questions. Fortune will always touch twice before a break in heavenly intervention. In all places you are in attendance be strong and imbue spirit into all. Buddhists think these very things do they not? There are four bright illuminations. These four could even charm a wild goose into docility. The mountain water when shaken will splash on all around it and is with the Buddhist spirit. Your tongue speaks strangeness in some towns your words should be like feathers landing lightly for all to and feel. Your way may seem incomparable to most your truth will eventually cover the province as would the sea waves.

Enshrine and follow with them to the five mother milk peaks so they can experience what you have. Follow the mistake of others and make corrections in character this may seem simple but it is not. Divide all wars. Possess a middle path for all to follow. Even the middle path for a king seems strange until he is shown the way. Right and justice in the land will prevail because it is the principle of the Buddhist. On this occasion the wind and spirit will take over. One must always amuse oneself at times to know there is happiness. Rejoice in the Buddhists commandments for they are a conduit to other areas. During the time of the 5th calendar sign or sign of the monkey (3-5PM) make the journey across the bridge which is an access into the Buddhist realm. Rely on things small rather than the grandiose. Nothing can harm water right, only if the feudal clans followed the right path. Frequently the way into the mountain can be a victory rather than a defeat. The way to dominate the west is to pull into time itself and make the changes room by room. Many peaks are hidden for the same reason the right things in life are. One must set out on a path for truth and freedom. The poem is just that poem a place a path already outlined in life. The peaks speak in poems of the heavens and await the enlightened ones.

Some get tied up in the spirit rather than unraveling it and learning what it really means. Consider us then consider the child who has the wisdom to see the way but not yet grasp its meaning. If only they could teach. A persons reasoning is often that just reason but not true insight.
In the beginning when a person entered an enclave if he was astute enough he knew before hand what to expect. To follow a path into an art for is the only way to know reality. By touching reality in its extremes we know what is polluted and what is not.
Everyone hopes to ride the palanquin of life. Think of the imperial tomb in Korea where the noblest of people are buried. With this in mind the mountain territories are open to all. The mind and heart in a normal mode of existence is an entity worth gambling for. Six months of work toward the descent is worth waiting for. To see the beginning to watch the overflow of the river of knowledge pass by is worth waiting for.
This is a strange sight for the normal middle class person and one must look forward not backward.

Always look north. The capitol is in the north. Reflect both north and south. Question the real person who seems to stand on clouds. Distinguish between copper and gold and the remains of those just buried and of the ones who are ancient. Follow the strange even though the path may seem strange. Fight through the haze read the small stones on the ground, as they will show you the path. Be careful listen to the sounds that ears detect. Watch for the sad people. There may be ten people who claim to be the one. There is only one with character. Defend the person who is stranded on the white peak. There life will be the seal to the boundary toward the truth. A good character is one who deals with sutras and prayers. Wherever I am summoned the seal will be with me.

Weed out those who no not of the ancient law of trust and virtue. Proper prayers are needed for those who wait. It matters not the grade or class of a person. Those who advance into the canyon of doubt will emerge in victory. Those who come from the east comes in error. The prayers are in the lodging. During the 7th calendar day, 5th zodiac sign taste the air it will be refreshing as well as pleasing. When one combs ones hair it is proper to do so toward the east.
The heavens big rain will cleanse all of impurity. During the full moon one can feel refreshed or rejuvenated. If one thinks only partially then only half of your problems will be solved.
Seek not greed when ascending the clouds from a afar. Sequence the order of your movements to coincide with the movements of ones eyelashes or eyebrows. Coordinate this movement with a strong heart.
When you travel to the peak of your choice proceed at your own pace never at someone else’s. Look for paths into circular areas within the peaks. When you arrive find two rooms, which are divided in half. This peak will then be a special area. Always think of the old ways and the old name for China (Shina). Chisel a path on your own for your palanquin to pass through. Ensure you have two walls one higher than the other. The area should resemble a box. Ensure you go southeast 6 Ri. Shi Shorin-Ji.

The temple outskirts are small at first until you enter the mountain proper from the north there will then be the foot. Once you view the five mother milk peaks you will understand the Yang principle. This is the number one area peace will be all around.

After that you will find the ancient province of Wei were filial piety reigns. You will see strange sights built by foreign priests in this area. The way will touch you as you enter. The dragon will divide the area and you must do the same in a martial aspect then proceed for an audience. Can you fathom a country of 90,000 sons? The body must be like the plum. When you climb you will see the seal of the plum then the legends will be apparent. There you will wait and eat. This meal of cooked rice with the priests will lift your spirits. Take tea, but only in abbreviated sips. Then rise and practice the law. This should be done in the snow while standing. The ancient priests were used to this type of austere training. Proceed to train until the snow is knee deep.
Leave behind all private thought and think only of the law then when you are finished return to the tall buildings. This was an area branched off from the rest of the temple for rest. High rank does necessarily mean prosperity. Rest and listen to the peaks and rivers talk to you. The temple has suffered much poverty. Its only strength is in the spirit of the priests.
The secondary law of the temple is sustenance. Monuments have been carved to remind the priests of their station. One must read the monuments, which are odes to the Tang & Manchu. Kings there are special priests who are scribes for the temple who do this.

Rise to the occasion to serve the king as priest soldier. There are many merits to this. To be able to stand and serve the sect you protect.

One such priest did and received 56 oak trees for his temple for shade. To have many foot soldiers under you in the protection of the king is a big responsibility. The temple priest reigns supreme. To be imbued with martial bravery is the highest honor. There are many of us at different temples. Turn and climb the watch tower 100 paces away and you will see it will seem strange to feel so small from this pedestal.
Antiquity is a postscript of the steep hill we all must climb. One must realize their mortality, surrender to heaven when the time comes. Look west and examine the forest see not the outside but look inside to see the truth. Proceed to the founder’s hermitage. In the area the pine and oak are very large and ancient. They have seen much during their tenure. As one looks north he sees a group of people he stands and waits by the gate to greet them.
Take advantage of the walling viewing that Daruma took part in. This is noted on a stone monument at the founder’s hermitage. The Sungs are strange they dabbled in herbal medicines to create enlightenment. But again think of Daruma. Look at the character placement on the monument if they are read right there is as message. The title of this message is brief only sixteen characters in length. It is hard to write long messages and still get the intent out.
In the middle of the founders hermitage is a room, which holds all the answers. This is where he did all his writing and thinking. Here is much history in this room. The room is big by most standards. It is said that all the stones in this room have Daruma's image, which shows that his legions are many.
He spent nine years in mediation and to be able to have such a sincere spirit and then be able to transmit this spirit into all and its surroundings its as if his spirit permeated all things. If the stone structure were to be destroyed his spirit would still remain.
To negate spirit to or to loose it is beyond words. The mountain is the key to maintaining the spirit. Above all doubt must be eliminated. Through sutras a priest can draw on all resources around him to strengthen his spirit. A tower is a likely place like the Manchu's built in order to draw strength from. It should be 10 feet circular and 30 feet in stature made of ancient stone from the mountains. It is said that princes wrote their best poems in stone structures of this kind.

The also had to possess five items necessary to accomplish their task. Not to do this would only negate their thought process. There are also special carvings that need to be acquired in the mountains to help in this process. There must be a group of four priests involved in this spiritual process. They must rise up the like the horses and look east for enlightenment. They must travel east 25 miles east and look for an Inn with a small path in back into the mountains. They will fine a Buddhist temple there with all the answers to their questions.

Near this temple is a secret tree. Only those it is said of true spirit or virtue can approach and learn as spirits of the zodiac also guards it. There are three signs on this tree scribed by Han era priests. In the temple nearby are three lengths of material 5 feet long. These items are also needed by the priests before they approach the tree of knowledge. The roots of this tree are the origins of life. For three lifetimes priests have sought and lost this knowledge. It is said that a priest or man who has impeccable spirit, virtue thru martial bravery can overcome all obstacles. Barbarians seeking this were whipped savagely in the past for seeking before purification. History says a prince protects these grounds. Heaven possesses the key to all happiness beyond what all can imagine. The person who does not have the backbone will not be awarded the goodness but cast aside to rot.

Many could profit from this oak only if they knew the way. Go as high as you can on the knowledge scale. Be virtuous and have spirituality above all. It is shown in the monuments all that have passed and failed before. Learn from this. In the plum forest is said to have a saint who knows the path who is endless in age. Those who retain wickedness in there soul will loose every time. Those who were wicked were dispatched to Korea. In the Yang principle is the key. This is a strange epilogue is it not?

Look toward the peaks then for the truth and seek what you will. Nothing can be accomplished at ground level. Remember the evening the Yang principle if not disciplined will seek to shade the truth. Seek the blue green spot.

CHUI #8 (CONT)
(Translated from Chinese cont)
Watch out for the blue green colors in the forest. Return to the small room. Study the way of the mountain soldier or mountain priest. When studying in the small room then moving into the big one later is like as breath of fresh air. But one must start in the small room first. This may see strange at first by it’s only a facade. Look to the east and pray to full moon. That’s when the spirit rejuvenation is at its highest to be received. All work must cease during this time.
Leave behind all greed and passion before one enters the gates. The prince touched many during his journeys especially in the government offices. He made everyone relax. He retired in an ancient province to study ancient law in the area of the white peaks. There was a mausoleum built in his honor in the mountains.
When it was finished many came to pray. Mean while those in the east always wanted to know the reason behind the founders hut idea. Cut into a rocky crag in the mountains. One job of the founder was to practice divination to look for water with a winnowing stick. It was said that that’s how they found the ancient founders hut was with a winnowing stick.
The founder was quite it was said so as not to disturb nature. This is the way it should be. Those who did not obey this rule in this area would be admonished. This is written on the monument enshrining the founders hut.
The way of righteousness and justice is a heavenly mandate and the principles of Ying and Yang run true. The rains bring the three beautifications forth. This helped the people fight sickness during times of drought or famine whereupon the faithful call out to the founder for guidance from time to time.
The zodiac signs were there to help predict the weather so to help the people determine when hot or cool weather was approaching in order to prepare.

The green dragon always protected the east gate as it was near the palace shrine, and when the rains came there was much to clean up. Prayers were given to the sacred three in the highest tower. It was said the seasons were manipulated in the sacred shrines.

Offerings were given to the Kings of the of long ago eras in supplication to the changes granted in the weather. Different priests were noted for different skills and noted in imperial monuments. Only the highest were ever allowed into the treasure house and only after many tasks were accomplished as a test plus small quantities of things which were kept hidden in which the priests had to vow to secrecy to. There were certain peaks in this area, which had a yellowish glow. Some thought it to be gold but to the initiated they knew what it really was. Some say it was knowledge showing itself, awaiting the faithful to come and see. Many mausoleums were in that area it was said and that was were the enlightened ones were buried there.
At night it was said that the hues were different and that there movement with a blue green light. That area was beautiful in that it was always cloudy with many beautiful Japanese cypress and pine trees whispering soft sounds. This was a secondary profit from this area. The first was its spirituality. When one would proceed into this area one would utter the old name of China in reverence to the spirits.

Then if accepted the blue green light would be seen by the faithful. For 10,000 years this has been so in this area. This is due to the many remains of wizards buried in this area. It is said that this is a mysterious mystical area filled with magic. Many have searched for this in vain and have reported no effects of such as described above. Were they initiated or were unbelievers. The benefits of this area are two fold. One must settle in this area and know all the nuances not just visiting. One must return to the old ways before the insight would come about. Many came to the wrong gates. Many came to the west gates and spoke in high and low tones but getting no answer.

There are many areas one will pass through. There are special water conduits passing through each area each is a vein holding what? One must take a palanquin south and follow the justice trail as is documented in the history records.

One must take the trek alone in order to witness the suffering first hand especially in the spring when the light rains come to the area all that is dead will come alive. One must forget all negative thoughts and witness the re-birth of nature in order to understand our real fragileness.

Previously we talked of the four sacred areas where nothing is said to exist other than the blue green light. As one ages it is said we get confused. That is why the ancient paths are there. One must draw forth the righteous spirit into their mouth. I agree it seems strange and this affect is non-class differential. Man can seek comfort in these mountains and what he sees he should write about, as all experiences will differ. Also man must learn how to enjoy oneself while in the mountains learn how to play again. Looks matter not it s what’s inside that counts. Many officials come from around in great numbers in order to seek guidance or wisdom and fewer are chosen. One must also leave their dark life behind. Come pure, clean and empty. These are words from the King. Know what to write and when. Purity in strength is the key. Truth comes from more than word or deed. Another 60 miles into the mountains is a border and another village. In the mountains when one sees the truth one of the four sacred truths will be revealed. Next one much climb the highest peak there whereupon a poem must be written to heaven.
No mistakes must be made it must be done with a pure spirit. Some have said that a white tiger has spoken to them in a strange tongue. Some think this was one of the sacred four. The middle way is spoken of often. At a shrine nearby one must concentrate on impeccable character. The name of the middle way exists but it is again tied to the understanding of the four. The mind and heart must be dedicated to the (3) Sambo (Buddha, The Law and the priesthood) in order to move on to the other.

There may be brief glimpses but it will elude one until a full understanding of the self is attained. To behave otherwise will increase the distance one must travel a thousand fold. Over half of heavens class is overseen by (5) soldier priests it is said. Now one must learn to negate before one can gallop. The next thing one must work on is greed. One must go to the area of sixty peaks in order to do this. As they all have different appearances that of what has come before and what has been left.

What uncommonalities can one gain here in the search for the three? Truth some say is difficult to attain if one is in a wrong mindset, and some say it is easy who is righteous.
One can gain much through play as did the five warrior priests. Such is the realization to the middle path. The first four soldiers found this out after the first passed through, as did the fist three. Right and justice these terms some find unpalatable why is that? When the legend of the Li Dynasty speaks to you one will see. Plums dominated the Ming era enclaves. There was a reason for this. Just as did right and justice the halberd and the sword in order to see how they interrelate one must know the right path.

Our boundaries are only limited by our interiors. Nothingness provides many opportunities. During the summer when it is hot who would benefit more, a prince with money and a large retinues or a warrior priest trained to perfection. Who would feel the heat more? Who is seeing nature at its best? Who is in tune with the middle path? These errors help us excel in the Shorin way or the Shorin path. We must salute the yellow palace of the Shorin.

That is why we interrupt our paths to help the aging the sick and the infirm. Would the money squandering prince do this? Some think all resides in money. Ones aim must be different our parents and a plain life with blue grass. All greed again must be negated. If we do it will pile up until we reach for the halberd for a solution. And yet how many times has this happened and calamity occurred. How much blood must be spilled before man understands the true path. The robe the bowl and they mat are first three things that must be learned and experienced.
Then we learn how to play like the young. Carve a monument to Li Dynasty once it is understood. Constant righteousness is like a sparkling gem each tier in the gem different just as man is. Ancients always praised the hunt why is that? Always one worries about what is behind us already past why?
Now even more is the time to know what the ancients were talking about. Prayer, supplication and play are also another set of three one must understand.

---YU SHORIN KI---

(A Shorin account of play/exercise)
Many people have passed into the mountain precincts bordering the Shorin-Ji. North, south, east, and west they come young and old. The mountain of choice was Shoshitsu-Yama. Many other mountains circle this one. Heaven and its boundaries circle and maintain all the mountain areas. Their mission is grander than ours. The boundaries though are said to be limitless. The ancient remains of yesteryear still exist. Alone the temples stand as a tribute to those gone by. Many errors were made in the waste and ruins of the palace in the east. All the good was negated and the literature of the plum the youth ignored because much goodness could have come from the Li Dynasty literature. Do not discard the image of the founder and his monument. To not do this would turn things barren and the military no cause. The ancient laws have been decreed and must be adhered to.
This middle path must be understood both in the mind and the heart. It is the difference between the strong and the weak.
Many travelers to this area speak of that. Above all one must have requisite character in order to succeed. To speak of the ancients is to speak of completeness even when in the mountains one must absolve the fear of the unknown. Fear is like a fog or misted window into the soul. The veil must be broken and the precipice breached. Less one be always at the mercy of the Tang. Find the monument in the woods in the mountains. This is the key.
Find the temple head priest of the area. A moral person puts his petty attributes behind him. Invite others to turn against the Tang. This is a moral person. To possess strength and power deny negativity. If this can be done one will laugh at the past.

The chief priest has many friends dead and alive. Know the head of a clan or temple. To know both he east and west is to know music. This is the course of the middle path. The knowledge of the ancients is in the tree. The roots lead into the stone. Deal with emptiness as cross the bridge. As you depart the temple never break the bond of learning or appearance as was taught and remember the shadow of the founder is in the stones. Remember the white stones and they picture they represent. Resolve to remember the severity of truth in his image.

A priest’s age does not belay his ability. Be like the stone in the middle of the valley travel with river to be in all places. The ability to be like the tree, water, and clouds is strange. The shadows they represent is even harder. To speak of the self is to stand-alone in the shadows of movement. Be like the movement of Daruma. Be the shadow, be the stone. Stare at the wall, as did Daruma. This is the center of all things. Look not for a secondary hermitage. Perform the ways 30 ways of the bowl. Profit from the beginning founders way and into the cave. In the middle carve your own stone monument. After this waves of understanding will roll out like a ceaseless ocean. The five peaks will be around long after we cease to exist. Then strength is renewed. Stop at the mountain and see.

The southern peaks offer much to the traveler. You will profit much on this path. From such a path one must stand or die. Face on front our fears and march on. The yellow river is so blue at times. Conduct oneself properly in the green mist, stop and revel at the temples countenance. What remains hidden is what is to be gained. Rest in ruins of one of the rooms. You will then be able to look back on the path or a moral person and see that righteousness and justice are but two of the same entities on the one path. As the smoke and clouds disperse you will see the real peaks. Perhaps things were always that way as dawn rises and the real gates appear. A child in white will appear and show the real division.
Watch at the appearance of the hands and how they strike with extreme precision. None can speak ill of this technique. The tests are many and beyond just technique. Try not to covet so much in the small room whereupon time will halt temporarily in this small room. It will seem strange almost as if stretching. Forget not your hopes for the true way and profit from the founder’s path. All matters martial must be concentrated on. Far-off we see shapes of the ancients in the mist. Look up at the great mountains and know you are secondary in this universe. Consider the plans and ideas of the 1,000's before you.
Heaven is the same all blue. Shake a way the mists of clouds and one will see all. The mountains it seems to calls to one eventually. This then is ones second chance. When the summit beckons come in from the shadows and into the light. All those great and small have their opportunity. Even the small can benefit. Many come with burdens to be released and the shoulders made lighter. Exercise with the earth and the profits of Shorin are doubled. Rewards are not given they are earned. One has to become serious and work together the mind, body and spirit the other three. If one can do this one can fly like a wizard and shun all disease. Strength in the natural laws is what we work for. Ones path and duty is distant at times and even remote but it will come into view when the mist is gone.
Complete negation of the spirit which can be achieved throught the lotus position in meditaiton. Be like the flower on the mountaintop. It knows not why it just is. Cease all movement and concentrate on the word. The reasons are many for this path the mountain can be you and you be the mountain. Speak well of all and most of all be simple.
