The course covers the history of journalism in the world from seventeenth century to the present. Topics to be included: first newspapers and the historical-political conditions that helped the development of the newspapers; regulations relating the press; development of press freedom; the relationship between the press and the political systems; Colonial press; international and national news agencies; history and development of journalism in the Ottoman Empire and in modern Turkey; history and development of journalism in Cyprus.
