The aim of the game is to be the first to reach the lost
city of Emoclew (the doors on the
Finish! square), facing
some of the challenges the characters found on the way.
Students play in pairs with a coin and buttons or game
pieces.
•
Students place their button or game piece on the
starting square, in the bottom left-hand corner (marked
Start ). They then take turns flipping the coin and moving
around the board. If they flip the heads side of the coin,
they move two spaces. If they flip the tails side of the
coin, they move one space. When they land on a green
square, they complete the sentence with the missing
words. When they land on a yellow square, they reorder
the words to make a question. When they land on a
purple square, they say the number of words specified in
the given category.
•
If students complete the sentence, make a question,
or say the correct number of words in each category
correctly, they stay on the square where they’ve landed.
If not, they move back one square.
•
When students land on a square with a picture of
something from the story next to it, they read and follow
the instruction (e.g., miss a turn or move forward a given
number of squares).
•
The first player to reach
Finish! (the doors into Emoclew)
wins the game.
•
Students can play the game more than once.
