Write on the board the name of a recent celebration or
festival in your students’ hometown. Play
So did I
(see
page xvi), asking each student to write two or three
things they did during that celebration (either to prepare
for it or to take part). Tell them to think about where
they went, what they ate, what they wore, what they
saw, and what they did, e.g.,
I watched fireworks with
my family from our roof. I saw the cabezudos parade.
Circulate and help with new vocabulary in the writing
stage, then follow the usual game procedure.
Presentation
•
Write three questions on the board about a place
particular to your students’ culture, a famous thing
and a famous person your students know well, together
with the beginning of the answers, e.g.,
What’s a
plaza mayor
?
It’s a … . where
…
What’s a tapa? It’s a … which …
Who’s Iker Casillas? He’s a … who …
•
Ask students to help you complete the sentences, e.g.,
It’s a place where people meet to go shopping or have
a coffee. It’s a dish of food that you can eat in a bar.
He’s a soccer player who was the captain of the Spanish
national team.
Underline the relative pronouns (
where,
that, who
) and tell students they’re going to practice
linking parts of sentences in this way in the lesson.
