Different holidays are celebrated in our country. They are: the 31 December- the Solidarity Day of all Azerbaijanis in the World, the Birthday of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, Independence Day, Gurban Bayrami, Novruz Bayrami, and so on. One of these holidays and the most important for our people is Novruz Bayrami. It is celebrated on 21 March. It is the most favourite holiday of all the people of our republic. Every family prepares for this holiday beforehand. They cook traditional dishes and sweets. They grow corn, the so-called “samani”. In the evening, all the members of the family gather around the table. They burn candles on the table. Children make fire and jump over it to leave their troubles and illness in the past. Novruz is very lovely holiday. With coming of spring everything becomes so fresh and so beautiful even the people look younger.
Gurban Bayrami is also a great holiday for us. It is religious holiday and has not a fixed date of celebration. It is always celebrated seventeen days after Orujlug (Ramadan). The main feature of Gurban Bayrami is sacrificing of an animal, mostly a sheep.
Every family must have meat dish on that day.
Another national holiday celebrated in our republic is the 28 May, the Birthday of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. This holiday is also popular among the Azerbaijan people.
