ABSTRACT
In this study, the mental reinterpretation and application of some concepts related with human and life in the 21st century by different milieus are discussed. Therefore, throughout this study, a content analysis is carried out and the classical method is applied through analyzing historical and current data sources. Depending on this data, some presumptions about the future are made.
The history of mankind has some turning points throughout the process of development. While these turning points are usually determined according to time, they can also be determined according to religious, philosophical, scientific, political, technological, etc. developments.
Western movements of development and alteration started an intellectually-based movement called the Enlightenment after the middle age and it acquired a new dimension with the Industrialization. The social developments with a political and forensic basis derived from the French revolution led to the breaking of the Empires into parts.
Thus, the acquisition of individual rights terminated the concept of “subject- society” and encouraged, or provoked, the search for democracy. In other words, the idea of a society which is triggered by modernism and which possesses civil initiatives arose.
However, throughout time, a group of intellectuals, who once supported the idea of modernism which then turned out to be a critical and rational school, started to criticize the idea of modernism because of its aim to create a homogenous society using the mind as a tool.
Before understanding its content and targets, mankind has been faced with the concept of “globalization” which has a deep meaning inside it.
It is observed that while post-modernists express their disbelief in the principles of modernism, owing to the triggering power of globalization, the elements of sovereignty which is ruled by national states and independent nations seem to disappear in communication, firstly in tourism and economy.
As a result of post-modernism and globalization, relative life styles produced the intercultural globalization, being influenced by the developments in the communication world. The European Union process is a subject of primary importance in that it supports both globalization and intercultural harmony.
As a conclusion, multi-centered life aspect destroyed the nation-state’s idea of shaping an individual and raising citizens dependent on it. As a result of this process, educational policies which have the authority to educate, manipulate and prepare the individuals for the future should question their general and specific goals.
