Ibn Tufayl Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Tufayl (d. 581/1185), a wazir and physician of the Muwahhid court, followed Ibn Sina in teaching that the soul, which was an immaterial substance, survived and did not perish with the body. In his philosophical novel Hayy ibn Yaqzan. named after a philosophical tale of Ibn Sina, he urged his followeis to live a solitary life and they were reminded not to disturb the religious way of life led by ordinary people unable to transcend then animal nature.
