A, B: ...sa_game; C: ...sa_gamai. C miscopies from A, where a descending lower part of ह from the line above can at first glance make one read sa_gamai. Cara_avyūhabhā_ya (Chaukhambha edn., p. 33): āndhrādidak_i_āgneyī godā sāgara āvadhi
A, C: hyopastambī
Cara_avyūhabhā_ya (Chaukhambha edn., p. 34): yajurvedas tu taittirya āpastambī prati__hitā; Ayachit edn. (p. 47): yajurvedas taittirīya āpastambī prati__hitā
This reading from L agrees with the Cara_avyūhabhā_ya. However, all our mss read: sahyādi-parvatārambhān nair_tyā_ tu sāgarāt
Cara_avyūhabhā_ya (Chaukhambha edn., p. 34): c parśurāmasya sannidhau; also Ayachit edn. p. 48. The reading paraśurāmasya violates the meter, and the reading parśurāmasya probably represents the actual pronunciation.
Printed edn. reads: vyāptavāyavyadeśe tu. Both editions of the Cara_avyūhabhā_ya (Chaukhambha edn. p. 34, Ayachit edn., p. 48) read: vyāptā vāyavyadeśāt tu
Cara_avyūhabhā_ya (Chaukhambha edn. p. 34, Ayachit edn., p. 48) reads: ...kali_gaśca kānīno
L adds this verse. It is missing in our mss, though it is found in the Cara_avyūhabhā_ya and seems to be presupposed by the subsequent verse, as well as by the subsequent discussion in our text.

The original passage in the N_si_hapūrvatāpanīyopani_ad, 2, N_si_hottaratāpanīyopani_ad 3, actually goes further and speaks of the 4th half-mātrā and identifies it with the Atharvaveda. Our pandit, while ostensibly citing from an âtharva_a source, leaves out the reference to the Atharvaveda, and highlights only the three Vedas.

The term yāvajjīvaśruti refers to the passage yāvajjīva_ darśapūr_amāsābhyā_ yajeta. This passage is cited by Śabara on Mīmā_sāsūtra 2.4.1 as coming from the Bahv_ca-Brāhma_a, and is not traced to any extent text. D.V. Garge (1952, p. 125) says that Kumārila’s remarks on this passage (namely, bahv_cabrāhma_e ’dhvaryubrāhma_e vāśrūyate iti nātīvābhinive__avyam) indicate that he had no access to this Brāhma_a text. Ganga Nath Jha’s translation of the passage in Kumārila’s Tantra-vārttika (p. 890) reads: ÒThough the sentences in question are found both in the Bahv_ca-Brāhma_a and the Adhvaryu-Brāhma_a, yet the name of only one of these is mentioned in the Bhā_ya; but it does not matter in which particular Brāhma_a the sentence is found.Ó The original passage in Kumārila seems to say that the passage may be found in a _gvedic Brāhma_a or in a Yajurvedic Brāhma_a, but that should not be of any great concern. What matters to Kumārila is just the fact that this is a Vedic citation. Its specific source is of little concern to him. This kind of yāvajjīvaśruti for Darśapūr_amāsa is indeed assumed by the âpastambaśrautasūtra (3.14.8 and 3.14.10): svargakāmo darśapūr_amāsau, ... tābhyā_ yāvajjīva_ yajeta.
