Burundi and Turkey
Nowadays the development of communication tools and the Internet are changing quickly the lifestyle of people. With the development of a wide range of communication technologies, new tools of communication are emerging. In those new tools of communication social media are also available. In the social media, especially in social networks’s users are mostly young people and days ever the numbers of social Networks’s users are increasingly growing. As it was stated in many studies, now, social networking has become an integral part of everyday life.
This dissertation examines the use of social networks by Burundian and Turkish university students in their learning environment. The target audience of the study is the university students, the second generation of Burundian and Turkish students; it means the students who are in their 2nd, 3rd and 4th year of university. The research model of the study is quantitative research model and screening model. Used as a means of data collection, a questionnaire prepared by the researcher and a survey has been done in the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Administration, Faculty of Literature, Faculty of Sciences and in the İnstititue of Applied Pedagogy at the University of Burundi and in Turkey, the survey has been done in Faculty of Literature, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Science, Hasan Ali Yücel Faculty of Education at the İstanbul University.
Obtained data were analyzed with the technique of frequencies and cross tabulations. As a result of this research, it can be stated that social networks are more efficient in learning environments. Despite the long distance to each other, in two different countries, in two different universities, the use of social networks by the students in their learning environment has been highlighted. Furthermore, has been seen that the Turkish students are more active in social networks than Burundian students. The use of social networks by Turkish students can be used as an example and an incentive for students in Burundi.
