14th International Conference on Digital Audio Effects

13-19 septembre 2011

http://dafx11.ircam.fr/wordpress/

DAFx-11 is structured around three full days of conference preceded by an afternoon of 3 tutorials and followed by a full day of 3 satellite workshops. The heart of the conference will present 69 selected papers organized in 33 oral presentations, 33 poster presentations and 3 State-of-the-Art (STAR) papers. The STAR paper is a new category of submission that aims at providing an overview of a research topic. This year, DAFx received a very large number of contributions related to audio signal processing (audio representation, modelling, coding synthesis and transformation). Consequently, among the 12 oral sessions, 5 are dedicated to these topics.  Other traditional key issues of the DAFx are represented into the 7 other oral sessions dedicated to -capture, analysis of audio signals, – synthesis of acoustic fields/ spatial sounds, – virtual analog models – physical models and virtual musical instruments. Among the encouraged topics, audio indexing and interaction has motivated many contributions.

In addition to the 12 oral sessions, 9 poster sessions will be held. In DAFx-11, poster sessions do not have a specific topic. We intentionally mixed the contributions inside each session in order to favor exchanges among researchers of a given field and continuous interest of the audience. In order to better highlight posters, each poster author is welcome to provide a short oral presentation at the end of each oral session.

Each conference day will open with an invited keynote. Udo Zölzer will open the conference browsing through the long DAFx journey and evolution over years (14 years).  David Zicarellli, founder of Cycling 74 (Max/MSP), will discuss advances in editing and visualization of signal processing. Patrick Flandrin will survey 200 years of frequency analysis since Fourier.

Complementing the scientific program of the conference, the social program of the DAFx-11 will provide a brief impression of Ircam activities: a world-premiere musical creation of one of Ircam composers, Andrea Agostini, at the Auditorium of the Louvre museum, a presentation of some Ircam specific researches and a demonstration of Ircam  WFS/ Ambisonic system. It will also include a visit of the National Museum of Modern Art (Centre Pompidou) and a typical charming gala dinner on a riverboat sailing over the Seine.

This year, the three best student paper awards go to :
