A: Bize nereli olduğunuzu söyleyebilir misiniz?

A: Artvin Türkiye’nin neresinde?
B: Karadeniz’in doğusunda.
A: Kaç yaşına kadar orada yaşadınız?
B: 18
A: Peki ilkokulu orada okudunuz?
B: İlk, orta ve liseyi orada okudum, bitirdim.
A: Peki sizce Artvin nasıl bir yer? Nesi ile meşhur?
B: Artvin genelde doğasıyla meşhur. Yaylaları ile meşhur bir yerdir. Şu anda Artvin bölgesinde 900 taneye yakın baraj yapılmaktadır. Artvin’in hiç bir özelliği kalmamıştır. Barajlar nedeni ile bir sürü alan kapatılmıştır.
A: Artvin’de en çok neler yetiştirilir?
B: Artvin’de şu anda bir şey yok. Meyve olarak birkaç tane var ama sahil şeridinde çay, fındık başta olmak üzere son zamanlarda da kivi ticareti yapılmaktadır. Çaylar, içtiğimiz çaylar Karadeniz’in Trabzon’dan Hopa’ya kadar olan yerde yetişmektedir, toplanıp çay alım yerleri dediğimiz Çaykur’un veya özel sektörün belli yerlerinde çaylar teslim edilerek vatandaşta geçimini oradan sağlamaktadır.
A: Genelde Karadeniz’de insanlar çiftçilikle mi uğraşıyor?
B: Genelde öyle. Çiftçilikte kastettiğimiz konu çay ve fındık üzerine diğerleri sadece kendilerine yani mısır da vardır ama kendilerine yetecek şekilde. Dışarı satacak şekilde değil. Ama çay ve fındık satışa yöneliktir.
A: Peki siz Karadeniz’e ziyarete gidecek birisine nereleri ziyaret etmesini tavsiye edersiniz?
B: Trabzon’dan başta Maçka Sumela Manastırı olmak üzere Of’tan içeri Uzungöl yaylası ordan Rize Ardeşen yöresinden Çamlıhemşin ve Ayder yaylalarına Artvinden Hopa sahil şeridinden Sarp sınır kapısına kadar. Artvin’de de belli başlı yaylalar ve göller vardır. Kaçkarlar vardır. Oralara gitmekte yarar görüyorum. Karadeniz’i görmeden tatil yaptım demesin kimse.
A: Peki Karadenizliler hakkında bize ne söyleyebilirsiniz?
B: Fıkralardakı gibi olmasa bile çok yakın ve şakacı insanlardır. Misafirperverdir. Herkes tanımadığı herkese evini açar. Yemeğini verir yatağını verir ve hiçbir problem olmaz. Sıcak kanlı insanlardır. Heralde ülkemizde Karadenizliler kadar sıcak kanlı, devletine bağlı, halkına bağlı bir halkta yoktur.
A: Peki çok teşekkür ederim
B: Bir şey değil

English translation:
A: Could you tell us where you are from?
B: Artvin, Hopa.
A: What part of Turkey is Artvin in?
B: On the east of the Black Sea region.
A: Until what age did you live there?
B: Eighteen.
A: And you went to primary school there?
B: I finished primary, middle, and high school there.
A: What is Artvin like? What is it famous for?
B: Artvin is famous for its landscape. It is famous for plateaus. Now approximately 900 dams are being built around Artvin. Artvin has no special attractions left. Lots of places have been closed because of the dams.
A: What is mostly grown in Artvin?
B: There is nothing now in Artvin. There are some fruits but on the coast there is tea, hazelnuts and lately kiwi are being traded. The tea we drink is grown in the Black Sea region ranging from Trabzon to Hopa. Then it is harvested and taken to Çaykur or private buyers, and the residents earn a living with that.
A: Do people mostly farm in the Black Sea Region?
B: Mostly that. What we mean by farming includes tea and hazelnuts only. The rest is kept for themselves. There is corn, but it is only enough for them and it isn’t for sale. But tea and hazelnuts are for selling.
A: Which places would you recommend to someone who is going to visit the Black Sea region?
B: First, Macka Sumela Monastery in Trabzon, and then go inland from Of to the Uzungöl plateau and then to the Rize Ardeşen region to Çamlıhemşin and Ayder plateus. From Artvin continue on the Hopa coast line until the Sarp border gate. There are some major plateaus and lakes in Artvin. There is Kaçkarlar (mountain region). I would recommend those places. No one should say "I had a holiday without seeing the Black Sea."
A What can you tell us about people from Karadeniz?
B: They are very friendly and humorous people even though they are not like the ones in our jokes.¹ They are hospitable. Everyone would welcome everyone into their houses even though they don’t know them. They offer their beds and food with no problem. They are very warm people. Doubtless there is no other group in our country as warm as the Karadeniz and as loyal to the country and society.
