Prof. (Dr.) Sarman Singh
Prof. Sarman Singh, a medical scientist, heads the Clinical Microbiology Division at the premier All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He was trained in epidemiology of infectious diseases at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, (USA) and in International Research Ethics at Harvard Medical School, USA and University of Natal, South Africa. Prof. Singh has been awarded by various national and international academic and scientific bodies for his outstanding contribution to the field of infectious diseases, mainly the Leishmaniasis, Toxoplasmosis and Tuberculosis. The most prestigious awards are (1) Dr. BC Roy Award of Medical Council of India (2) Product, Process & Commercialization Award of DBT, Government of India (3) Vigyan Ratna Samman of Council for Science and Technology, Government of UP, India (4) Overseas Associateship Award of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India and (5) Dr. BP Pandey Oration Award of Indian Society of Parasitology, as Best Teacher in Medical Parasitology.

He has two international Awards to his credit; The Young Scientist Award of International Immunocompromised Host Society (USA) of 1996 and Merit Award again from International Immunocompromised Host Society (USA) of 1998 for his work on Toxoplasma and Cytomegalovirus, respectively, in immunocompromised hosts. He has also been awarded by Indian Council of Medical Research, India for his work on Toxoplasmosis and its association with iodine deficiency. Beside these major awards he has been awarded several awards from Government of Japan, Government of Canada, CSIR (India), INSA (India), DBT and DST. His major research interests are Leishmania, Toxoplasma and HIV-TB coinfection.

He is Fellow of Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (London), Fellow International Medical Sciences Academy, Fellow of National Academy of Medical Sciences (India), Fellow of Indian Academy of Tropical Parasitology (India), and Fellow of Society for Immunology and Immunopathology (India). He is Member of more than 20 national and international scientific bodies including the International AIDS Society (Geneva), American Society for Microbiology (USA), International Immunocompromised Host Society (USA), Internationa Society of Infectious Diseases ( USA), IMA, IAMM, ISP, IALP, ISG, ISPAT etc to name a few. He is Editor-in-chief of Journal of Laboratory Physicians, past-editor of Journal of Immunology and Immunopathology and on the editorial boards of several international journals including the “Open AIDS Journal” “Recent Patent Reviews on Anti-Infective Drug Discovery” “Journal of Infection in Developing Countries” “The Clinical Medicine: Dermatology”, “International Journal of Life Sciences and Technology” and two Indian journals the IJMM & JPD . He is also on the review boards of various national and international journals including the Lancet, JAMA, CID, Medical Science Monitor, Acta Tropica, IJID, Kinetopastida, J Infection, Parasitology, JIDC, AIDS Care, AIDS and Behavior, J Med Microbiology, IJD, Current Science, IJMR, IJMM, JPD, IJP, JVBD etc. He has organized 3 International and 2 National Conferences and several hands-on workshops which benefited hundred of young and budding scientists, he has also guided 15 PhDs, 16 MDs and More than 20 MSc. theses. .

He has written 6 books, 27 book chapters and more than 195 research papers in various national and International journals, including CELL & PNAS with a total citation of more than 1100 and H-index of 16. He has 7 patents for product and process to his credit including one on recombinant KE16 antigen of Leishmania donovani which is commercialized globally.
