Happy Valentine’s Day! Take time out to enjoy the sweeter things in life.
Even if you have been accepted to the college of your dreams, don’t let senioritis set in. Accepting colleges do look at second-semester senior grades.
Please refer to the following websites, as you may find them helpful in your college or job search.

Do not hesitate to see your counselor should you have any questions about colleges, careers, or the direction you should take once you graduate.

Visit the website of the colleges you would like to attend, go to the Financial Aid and Scholarship page for incoming freshmen for scholarship and financial opportunities.


College Specific Scholarships


  • Madonna University-On Saturday, April 21 Madonna University is hosting a Scholarship Essay Writing Day. This is an opportunity for freshmen and sophomore high school students to brainstorm, develop, and draft competitive scholarship essays. Complimentary lunch is provided. An application is required. Visit www.madonna.edu and look under the ‘Events’ tab.




  • Wayne State University-Earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre or a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Acting or Design/Technical Theatre. Talent Scholarship and early BFA Auditions will be held Saturday, February 18, 2012. For more information, visit www.theatre.wayne.edu.




  • Lawrence Technological University-You could win a scholarship worth $1,000-$4,000 per year by participating in the Lawrence Tech. Scholarship Competition on February 25, 2012. The competition is open to Michigan high school junior and senior students. To participate, complete the scholarship competition application at www.surveymonkey.com/mischolarship, seniors apply to Lawrence Tech at www.ltu.edu/futurestudents/apply.asp, and write a 1200 word essay (see the counseling center for the topic) by February 10. The writers of the best essay will be invited to attend the Scholarship Competition Saturday, February 25, 2012.


General Scholarships


  • Best Buy-Over 1,000 scholarships valued at $1,000 each are available to students in grades 9-12. To qualify, students need solid grades plus community or work experience. Apply by February, 15, 2012 at www.at15.com or www.bestbuy-communityrelations.com.



  • Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union-There are 12 Rudolph Heino scholarships valued at $1,000 available for class of 2011 graduating seniors who are also members of the Credit Union. For application requirements and further information, visit www.msgcu.org and click in the “Look What’s New” section. Applications must be submitted to the credit union on or before March 9, 2012.




  • DeCarlo’s Banquet and Convention Center-DeCarlo’s has teamed up with several community service clubs to sponsor the 6th Annual Ted Bates Memorial Scholarship Program available to graduating Seniors who attend high school in the Warren area. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0, and they must have completed at least 40 hours of community service hours during the 4 years of high school. To be considered for the scholarship, submit a community service biography to your counselor by February 15, 2012.




  • East Macomb Chapter Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel-Two $500 scholarships are available to deserving Macomb County public high school students who are planning to attend Macomb Community College in the fall of 2011. The award decision will be based upon the student’s need, scholastic performance, extra curricular activities, and written references. More information and applications are available in the counseling center. All applications and references are due by March 30, 2012.




  • Royal Oak Hockey Association (ROHA)-Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors that have played at least one year with the Royal Oak Hockey Association (travel, house, or clinic). The scholarship can be used toward any post-secondary program. Applications are available at www.royaloakhockey.com under the “ROHA Hockey Moms Club”. Applications are due to the ROHA Moms Club by February 29, 2012.




  • Special Tree Rehabilitation Co.-Students planning a career in the health care field are encouraged to apply for a $1,000 scholarship. A senior from Warren Mott High School is guaranteed to win the scholarship award. Applications are available at www.specialtree.com. Apply by Friday, March 2.




  • Islamic Society of North America (INSA)-INSA will award twenty scholarships of $1,000 each in September 2012 to Muslim students. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and enter their freshman year in college this fall. Applications are due by February 15, 2012. For more information and an application, visit www.isna.net/scholarship.




  • Buick Achievers Scholarship Program-High school seniors who plan to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design, or business, with an interest in the automotive industry are encouraged to apply for a Buick Achiever scholarship. The program features 100 scholarships each up to $25,000/year and 1000 scholarships each at $2,000/year. Visit www.buickachievers.com for more information. The application deadline is February 29, 2012.




  • Warren Education Association (WEA)-The WEA will award a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from Warren Mott High School. Students who have an immediate family member in a labor union and will be attending a public institution of higher education in the fall. To be considered, applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA and an ACT score of 23. Applications are available in the counseling center and must be postmarked by April 30, 2012.




  • Motor City Co-Op Credit Union-Motor City Co-Op Credit Union is offering a the Bethanti-D’Agostino Memorial Scholarship to high school Seniors who are attending college or university in Fall 2012. A total of five $2,000 scholarships are being awarded this year. All applications must be received by April 2, 2012. You may obtain an application from the counseling center.




  • Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation-The Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation offers a $2,000, non-renewable scholarship to graduating seniors. Winners are selected on the basis of scholarship, leadership, financial need, and dedication to the civil rights principles of Rosa L. Parks. Applicants must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Further information and applications are available in the counseling center. Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2012.




  • Extra Credit Union-Extra Credit Union offers scholarships to help defray the cost of college expenses. Applications are available at www.extracreditunion.org/scholarships or at any in-school branch. The application deadline is April 20, 2012.




  • American Polish Engineering Association-The American Polish Engineering Association is offering two scholarships at one thousand ($1,000) each. One scholarship will be offered to a male high school senior and the other will be offered to a female high school senior. Each scholarship may be applied to tuition, books, or fees. For more information and an application visit the counseling center. Applications should be postmarked by Saturday, April 7, 2012.




  • Next Step U-Next Step U, a publication for high school students, offers a $10,000 scholarship twice a year. Visit www.nextstepu.com for a free scholarship information and a free scholarship search tool.


Miscellaneous


  • College Goal Sunday-On Friday, February 12, 2012 from 2-4pm over 500 financial aid volunteers will be available to help students in grade 12 complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at 37 locations across the state. The event is called College Goal Sunday and there is no charge for admission. $2,500 in scholarships and prizes are available for those students who attend the event. More information is available in the counseling center and on the counseling section of the Warren Mott website.




  • The Siemens Foundation-The Siemens Foundation and Discovery Education are awarding more than $300,000 in prizes through the Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge-the nations’ premier environmental sustainability challenge for grades K-12. Top Prizes include a $50,000 scholarship. Visit www.wecanchange.com to learn more. Applications are due March 15, 2012.




  • Society of Women Engineers (University of Michigan)-Discover the possibility of engineering! Summer Engineering Exploration (SEE) Camp is a one week, residential camp for high school students interested in engineering. Current 9th-11th graders are encouraged to apply by Friday, February 24, 2012. For more information and to fill out your application, visit the webpage at www.http://swe.engin.umich.edu/seecamp.




  • Emory University-Discover college life this summer! Participate in Emory pre-college program, an academic program for high school students. Visit www.precollege.emory.edu for more information.




  • Barnard College-Barnard College at Columbia University offers young men and women a unique opportunity to sample pre-college courses while exploring NYC both in and out of the classroom. The campus is located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, on a beautiful four-acre, residential campus. To find out about the programs they offer log onto www.barnard.edu/precollege.
