Traveling Cable
The contractor shall furnish and install new traveling cables. The appropriate number of traveling cable(s) shall be provided to ensure proper operation of all specified functions and safety operations. Each traveling cable provided shall contain a minimum of 10% spares. All traveling cable shall be UL listed, CSA approved and shall meet the latest requirements of the National Electrical Code. Round traveling cable provided shall come with a limited lifetime warranty when properly installed. The following minimum standards apply to the installed traveling cable:
Electrical Components:
Stranded Conductors: Bunch-stranded bare soft drawn copper. AWG sizes comply with ANSI/ASTM B174, ANSI/ASTM B3 and with type ETT requirements of UL 62 and CSA C22.2 No. 49.
Insulation: 60C, colored, flame-retardant polyvinyl chloride complying with ETT requirements of UL 62 and CSA C22.2 No. 49.
Identification: Each insulated conductor and shielded pair shall be positively identified by an insulation color or a combination of insulation color and numerical markings appearing four times/foot, thirteen times/meter.
Mechanical Components:
Steel Support - Round Traveling Cables (for applications with a hanging length >200ft): Preformed, flexible, low torsion, zinc-coated, steel wire rope in accordance with applicable portions of Military Specification MIL-W-83420. The steel support shall be insulated with 60C flame-retardant polyvinyl chloride. The steel shall be covered with a textile braid. Steel support shall comply with ANSI/ASTM, UL and CSA requirements.
Steel Support – Flat Traveling Cables: Preformed, flexible, low torsion, zinc-coated, steel wire rope in accordance with applicable portions of Military Specification MIL-W-83420. Steel support shall comply with ANSI/ASTM, UL and CSA requirements.
Jute Core (for applications with a hanging length <200ft): All jute cores shall be electrical grade dry jute. Filler shall aid in producing a torsionally-balanced cable. Individual core interstice fillers shall distribute interlayer pressure and reduce conductor friction.
Binder – Helically wound synthetic fiber providing maximum strength.
Braid – A textile braid shall be applied over the core assembly with 90% coverage.
Jacket – The outer jacket shall be black, 60C polyvinyl chloride specifically compounded for flexibility and abrasion resistance. The finished cable shall meet UL VW-1 and/or CSA FT 1 flame requirements. It shall also comply with ANSI/ASTM, UL and CSA requirements. The operating temperature range shall be from +5F · -15C to +140F · +60C.
Jute Filler: All jute fillers shall be electrical grade dry jute. Filler shall aid in producing a torsionally-balanced cable. Individual core interstice fillers shall distribute interlayer pressure and reduce conductor friction.
Communication Components:
Shielded Pairs: 20 AWG or 18 AWG insulated conductors paired together with a short lay twist, shielded with 36 AWG bare copper braid for 85% coverage. Shielded pairs shall be jacketed with colored, flame-retardant 60C polyvinyl chloride and comply with ANSI/ASTM, UL and CSA requirements.

RG6/U Coaxial Cable: 75 ohm, UL listed, CSA certified. Center conductor shall be 20 AWG stranded copper insulated with cellular polyethylene, wrapped with aluminum tape for 100% coverage, braided with tinned copper for 60% coverage and jacketed with flame-retardant PVC.
Attenuation: 0.65 dB/100’ · 2.13 dB/100m @ 10 MHz

1.55 dB/100’ · 5.08 dB/100m @ 50 MHz

Capacitance: 17.3 pf/ft · 56.7 pf/m
Fiber Optic Subunit: 62.6/125 micron tight buffered multimode optical fiber, covered with high strength aramid yarn and jacketed with flame-retardant polyvinyl chloride.
Max. attenuation @ 850 nm: 3.75 dB/km

Max. attenuation @ 1300 nm: 1.50 dB/km

Min bandwidth @ 850 nm: 160 MHz·km

Min bandwidth @ 1300 nm: 500 MHz·km

Hanging Methods:
Universal Hanging System (for Steel Center Round Traveling Cable): Contractor shall properly hang steel core cables utilizing the Universal Hanging System (Saddle Bracket) provided by Draka Elevator Products. The device shall be designed to solidly grip the traveling cable(s) and support the steel wire support member. The hanging system shall be manufactured with a curved bracket to cradle the cable, preventing rotation. Two (2) stainless steel hose clamps shall be utilized to keep the cable from twisting and shall be installed at the curved portion of the bracket. Bracket shall also be manufactured with two (2) welded steel supports to safely bear the cable weight.

Jute Core Traveling Cable:

Contractor shall utilize jute core traveling cable hanger (HGRJC-8) with a minimum 8” clear between brackets and the appropriate sized mesh grip(s) to properly support jute core traveling cable. The base of all grips shall be secured with several wraps of vinyl tape to maintain original grip set. Utilization of this hanging method is intended for maximum hanging lengths < 200 ft. only per NEC article 620-41.

Flat Cable Suspension Devices (for applications with a hanging length of < 150ft):

Contractor shall furnish and install a flat cable suspension device made of molded nylon that resists abrasion, temperature and solvents. Two (2) devices shall be provided per cable. Each device shall be provided with a clamping wedge that secures the cable in the bracket. If multiple cables are being supported, the narrowest width cable must not be less than 70% of the width of the widest cable.

FCSD-2 shall be provided to hold up to two (2) cables totaling a maximum thickness of 0.47 inches and a maximum width of 2 inches.
FCSD-3 shall be provided to hold up to three (3) cables totaling a maximum thickness of 0.59 inches and a maximum width of 3 inches.
FCSD-4P shall be provided to hold up to three (3) cables totaling a maximum thickness of 0.59 inches and a maximum width of 4.5 inches.
