The Formation Of Copper Minerals Related To Alteration At Northeast Of Çavdır (Burdur)

In this study, copper minerals, including chalcopyrite, malachite and azurite, which are found in the thrust sheets of Lycian Nappes in northeastern of Çavdır (Burdur) were investigated.

The following tectonic units are exposed in the study area in a structurally ascending order; Kızılcadağ Melange and Olistostrome unit of the Marmaris Ophiolitic Nappe, Marmaris Peridotite unit of the Marmaris Ophiolitic Nappe, Dutdere Limestone unit of the Domuzdağ Nappe. The Pliocene Çameli formation and Quaternary alluvium deposits unconformably overlie all of these Lycian Nappe trust sheets.

Copper formations are located in the gabbro and serpantinized harzburgite of the Marmaris Ophiolitic Nappe and generally occur within the quartz veins. Chalcopyrite, bornite, iron minerals such as goethite, hematite, magnetite and malachite as secondary copper mineral are seen in the veins. In the study area, there is only one localization that Azurite minerals occur where quartz veins are absent. Cuprous ore minerals are accompanied by extensive alteration. Qualitative clay analysis were made to define alteration minerals and chlorite, clay and zeolite minerals, cristobalite and albite were determined by X-Ray Diffractometer method.

The ore mineral paragenesis and succession was determined by the ore microscopy studies. In the first stage chalcopyrite minerals were formed, then bornite minerals formed as a rim around them. Iron minerals and quartz were formed in the second stage. Malachite, azurite, chlorite, clay and zeolite minerals were formed in the last stage as alteration products.

Geochemical data were interpreted after element stability analyzes. Host rocks are gabbro-diorite in composition. By using tectonic discrimination diagrams, source area is determined as mid-ocean ridge modified by a subduction zone.

Fluid inclusion studies were done on quartz minerals. Inclusions are generally two phased (liquid+vapour) and NaCl-H2O system. They homogenized at about 283 oC and the salinity is determined as %8 NaCl equivalent from ice melting temperatures. Microtermotric data indicates an epithermal system.

Mineralization occured in the effect of tectonic control and the heated ground water by the crust tickening and geothermal gradiant mobilized copper minerals from parental rocks.
