Note #3

The state of affairs during the Giwancho era in the village of Shuri during the year’s 1823 1862 is what we will touch on here. During this 40-year reign, there was a lot of commotion within the ranks of the Sanshiko of the present government.

During the 5th year of Meiji, Shotai the then feudal king was a noble of the imperial command. During his reign the hermit kingdom was fairly quiet.
Throughout other areas of the land the state of affairs was in upheaval. This was due partially to the abolition of the clans and the setting up of prefectures. The feudal king received many requests to not go ahead with the plan. The Shizuka believed everyone should be a commoner as it was before. During the 5th year of Meiji Shuri castle was finally opened to all. This started the birth of a new era.
The pro Japanese schools were very fond of the Waka (Thirty one-syllable poems) especially the ones that depicted pastoral scenes. The feudal king Goshin while proceeding to the capital met a prince who was on his way to take up a Shogunate administrative position as an examiner. A small favor granted by the Sanshiko. As the journey went on the subject came up between the two of the Pro-Japanese rule, which then was a touchy subject. By making conversation through a Waka they skirted the issue while still making their pros and cons heard.

Note #4

The self opinionated leader Kanekawa Shinho was one who was against the abolition of the clans. His power influence made him an obstacle in the way of progress. He became known as Kamekawa Shinho Shobu (Prosperous Military Leader).

Kanekawa Shinho during the 11th month 3rd year of Meiji got elected to a Sanshiko position. In the 5th year of Meiji Yonagen Shinho at the age of 63 also elected to a Sanshiko position. Crown prince Iko Oshii upon arriving at the capital congratulated him. His post was a most exhausting one.
He was unable to endure the rigors of the job as the story goes so he resigned which was pointed out earlier.

The feudal king during this era had uncovered a traitor to the Pro Japanese group. After exhaustive search he was uncovered. The traitor thought the king was not for peace in the region and acted accordingly. The national sentiment then was to have the traitor executed according to laws. But a Conservative Party made it known that his death would prove nothing, other than making him a martyr. Giwan Choho who had uncovered the traitor at the age of 40 became the third in the triad of Sanshiko's. He had a very illustrious career.

The poets immortalize people it is said who are brave of heart and gifted of mind. These types of writings bear the seeds for future leaders. People who are strong in Stature and tall in frame are always written about as being good candidates for future leaders. During the 12th year of Meiji there were many old Conservative Party members. They were at that time discontented with the actions taken by the current ruler. One of these people at the age of 63 was Kanekawa. Word had gotten out to Shotai in Tokyo of these happenings and criticism was so extreme that he left Tokyo for Okinawa to solve this problem.
Kanekawa had by then established a headquarters for his black part coalition. There was a dispute in the right/wrong ideology of this party and many quarrels ensued between parent/child brother/sister, mother/father. During this era also many marital and divorce suits were brought out.
During the 17th year of Meiji at the age of 77 Kanekawa’s grandchild Kanekawa Sakamune was 24 years of age. The people demanded that the police take Sakamune in as they thought he was leading Kanekawa’s group. But nothing ever happened.
Kanekawa Sakamune at the age of 27 returned to his country of Okinawa only to depart  For China at the persuasion of his family for a short leave of absence and Shotai who upon returning to Tokyo was informed of this incident and thought that matters were taken care of. Kanekawa Sakamune was eventually found out to be the traitor/spy and was stabbed to death later on by an unknown assailant. No investigation was ever pursued.

Kanekawa Shinho’s life span was predicted to the age of 85.

Note #5

Why would a Chinese feudal lord be involved with the Meiji government, and why would he want control over the Ryukyuan Kingdom? The Ryukyuan kingdom at that time had a feudal lord who resided over them. This concerned Shotai the current Ryukyuan King. Shotai had total control over the local provinces and ruling class.

He did though offer to entertain the Chinese lord and maybe reserve a place for him on his staff.
He would not concede to give him a ruling party vote, which would put him closer to his goal. The king thought this through very carefully.

Note #6

With popular respect and important individual is mentioned here a one Shoden Doshi. He had a son who lived to the age of 17. His son was supposed to be his only heir. He was part of the imperial restoration decree and advocate for imperial rule. He was very active at his young age in government service until his untimely death, which occurred during the 15th year, of Meiji.

Managers of the Ryukyuan government during the 8th   12th year of Meiji had numerous occasions to quell the stubborn resistance even if armed force was called for to route Out those individuals who were against the abolition of the clans.
The abolition of the clans and the restoration of the government appointed a diet. Through this new form of government increased productivity and a quieting of the masses prevailed. More social reforms and education became institutionalized. More support was given to the government from the Populace, which came through the politicians.
An authority came from Okinawa during this time. He was a publisher and an information specialist on the state of affairs of the populace. His specialty was centered on the Bigotry Party that was roaming the land.
The Populace and the former ruler to quell this matter gave him much help. With this help he was able to uncover some interesting facts.
