The cult of horse: in the epos and in the novel
Summary
The article analysis the horse characters in the novel “Snow Passage” (“Garli Ashirim”) by Farman Karimzada and in the epic of “Kitabi Dada Gorgud” in the context of aesthetic functions. The horse-heroes both in the novel and in the epic are being studied. An attention is specifically drawn to the fact that the horse’s status as the “hero’s assistant” in the ethnical memory has been reserved in the national novels as well. From the comprehensive and comparative analysis of relationships between a horse and a hero, the author concludes that “a novel deriving from an epic” is not in fact a novel version of an epic; the basis of the author’s aesthetic view refers to the sustainability of the epic thinking.
