Vera D’Amico

Born: August 14, 1970, Florence (Italy).
Current position: Researcher at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV), Department of Milan, Italy.
Qualifications: April 2000, Ph.D. degree in Earth Sciences form the University of Siena, Italy.
Experience: The research activity of Vera D’Amico has mainly focused on the topic of probabilistic seismic hazard assessment (PSHA). In particular, besides working on PSHA models based on conventional state-of-the-art methodologies (e.g., Cornell-McGuire approach), she has developed an innovative approach to estimate seismic hazard in terms of macroseismic intensity by basically relying on local information about documented effects of past earthquakes (site intensity data). She has also worked on defining an empirical testing procedure devoted to assessing the level of reliability of alternative seismic hazard models, by testing outcomes of each considered model against seismic occurrences (strong-motion data or intensity values) observed at a number of sites during a control time-period. Other main topics of research have concerned the attenuation of macroseismic intensity in Italy and the analysis of seismic noise for microzonation studies.
Since 2007 she is a researcher at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV), Milan, Italy.
From 2002 to 2006 she was a post-doctoral grant holder at the Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Siena, Italy.
Vera D’Amico has participated in several national and international projects:
