Giuseppe Pezzo



Born: March 19, 1983, Albano Laziale (Rome), Italy.
Current position:

Postdoctoral research fellow at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV), National Earthquake Centre, Rome, Italy.


Qualifications:

Dec. 2007, “Laurea” degree (5 years) in Geology, summa cum laude, from the University of Rome “Roma Tre”. Graduation thesis on Geomorphology.

Mar. 2012 Ph.D. degree in Geophysics from the University of Bologna “Alma mater studiorum”. Ph.D. thesis title: “InSAR deformation measurements of the earthquake cycle in transcurrent tectonic domains, analytical and analogue modelling”.
Experience:

Dr. Pezzo has worked in the field of Synthetic Aperture radar since 2009, where his main activities included: Small Baseline InSAR techniques applied to inter- and post-seismic displacement retrieval, data interpretation and modelling; DInSAR techniques applied to co-seismic displacement retrieval, interpretation and modelling. He has also worked on geological field investigations concerning active capable faults and ground coseismic effects retrieval.


Since 2012 he is a postdoctoral researcher at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV), Rome, Italy. He serves as WP leader for the INGV-ASI project MuSA (Use of Multiband Satellite SAR data for the Study of Crustal Deformation Related to the Seismic Cycle). Within this project he works on the validation, interpretation and modelling phases to sites of geological interest.
From 2009 to 2012 he was a Phd student at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) on the INGV-ASI project SiGRiS (System for the Management of Seismic Risk). He applied DInSAR and multitemporal SAR technique to retrieve the co-seismic and interseismic displacement measurements for several tectonically active area. He studied inter- and co-seismic deformation sources using analogue and analytical models.
Within the INGV-Snam Rete Gas S.p.A consultancy agreement, he conducted geological field investigations concerning active capable faults and provided a seismic source list for the construction of a gas pipeline.
