Fresh fruits, berries, vegetables and a variety of herbal prod­ucts play an important role in our daily diet. They are a source of valuable nutrients that promote better digestion. Particu­larly important is the role of plant foods as a source of many vitamins, mineral compounds and other physiologically active substances. Found that the correct selection of a variety of plant foods not only provides the body with carbohydrates, fats, partially in proteins, vitamins, minerals, but also to a large extent they possess healing properties. However, there are many reliable observations, urging the expediency of the use of plant foods, showing that in areas where power predominates in various plant foods, people get sick less and live longer.

On the medicinal properties of food plants has long been known. The chemical composition of food plants increased the possibility of using them to promote and maintain health. And in many cases in order to use medicinal employed not only for food, but also other organs of food plants.

This book describes the medicinal properties of culti­vated and wild food plants used in food in everyday life.

The book consists of two parts.

In the general part of the characteristic of chemical sub­stances found in plants, because of their value to humans. The general part outlines methods for preparing drugs (infusions, decoctions, tinctures, powders, ointments, teas and tea fees, juices, etc.) of plants in the home.

The second part includes descriptions of certain types of food plants and their medicinal properties. It thoroughly out­lined bread, cereals and legumes, fruit, vegetable, nut, spice and flavoring plants as well as plants that have a tonic effect in the human body. Essays about these plants are included in chapters according to their basic food consumption and located them in alphabetical order of the names of plants. Because most food plants are quite familiar to readers of their botanical features are very short.

The book has information about the physiological and bio­logical nature of food plants, their importance for the preven­tion and treatment of a variety of human diseases.

Guidance on the application of food plants in the diets is given small, since the main purpose of the book - to highlight their medicinal properties.

In the presentation of the medicinal properties of food plants given testimony to their destination not only in research, but also traditional medicine.

In cases where the efficiency of the use of plant - health con­firmed by clinical observation, or such use may be justified by the experimental data of pharmacological or chemical composi­tion, provides guidance about how this application.

To simplify the use of the book were made at the end of al­phabetical indexes of food plants in Azerbaijani, Russian and Latin, and before each name listed plant their location correspond­ing page in the book.

The book includes descriptions of food plants cultivated and grows wild in Azerbaijan, as well as plants that grow and are grown in other countries (northern, tropical) world. Edible plants are described in alphabetical order within each group of plants and the names of food plants, mostly as indicated in Azerbaijani, Russian and Latin.
