The presenter noted that this functionality was demonstrated to ATSC and was well received.
” generalized to “an MPEG standard.”
Further, FhG-IIS cannot at this time support the use of the MPEG BSD License. Finally, they note that calling the “MPEG BSD License” is confusing and problematic because the MPEG BSD License has text different from the “BSD License.”

Notes that “Clear BSD License” might be better.

Proposal for SAOC signaling update in MPEG-H 3D audio
| -
Adrian Murtaza, Harald Fuchs
|
The contribution proposes a flag bit in the syntax that would signal that the SAOC downmix is suitable for presentation, and if so also signals a loudspeaker configuration to use to play our the SAOC downmix.
It was the consensus of the Audio subgroup to incorporate this HOA layer coding technology into MPEG-H Phase 2.
Sang Bae Chon, Samsung, presented
The contribution proposes an “internal channel” that permits low complexity format conversion. This is most appropriate for stereo presentation. The presenter noted that stereo TV devices are pervasive in the marketplace, and that all TVs, tablets, smartphones are capable of stereo presentation.
The contribution notes that the format converter requires a covariance analysis, which has high complexity e.g. in the case of 22.2 to stereo conversion.
The contribution notes that complexity of the format convert is related to the number of format converter “input channels.”
The CE requires a new channel order, which can be signalled using current tools. The CE also requires a 1-bit flag in MPEG Surround configuration to signal that internal channel processing should be applied.
The Chair noted that this seems to be a technology that maintains subjective quality, perhaps requires a greater bitrate, and provides lower complexity.
Michael K, FhG-IIS, noted that the contribution does not seem to address the fact that the encoder interpolates MPEG Surround 212 parameters.
The Audio subgroup looks forward to more information at the next meeting such that this proposal would be a complete CE proposal.
