Conclusion on Chapter III
An important goal of education is that students learn to be critical of moral values. In this exploratory multiple case study, we analyze learning strategies to promote value-laden critical thinking in class-wide philosophical dialogues. We observed 15 dialogues in a philosophy class taught by five experienced philosophy teachers, and we selected seven dialogues that explicitly discussed moral values for further qualitative analysis.
In these value-laden dialogues, we identified three categories of learning strategies that were used by teachers to encourage critical reflection on moral values: learning strategies for 1) conversion, 2) application, and 3) debate about moral values. We also looked for transfer-oriented learning strategies and found that teachers made learning content more meaningful and created intercontextuality; however, we did not find examples of metacognitive reflection. In this paper, we provided a detailed description of the identified learning strategies.
Critical thinking is an ability that students need in their personal lives and professional life. Therefore, universities should do their best to include it in curricula, curricula and programs. However, since there is no clear definition of this ability, there is still a lot of work to be done, and new positive methods must be strengthened in order to develop this ability.
The results of the study show that there are three main methods that teachers practice and ponder most useful: lecturing, storytelling, discussion; Argumentation presentations (oral presentations and speeches), written assignments, composition; No matter what, they have critical thinking. There are some other trends observed in critical thinking, despite the difference in methodology and concepts. Also, teachers use and find the most effective methods have a significant relationship with each other. Finally, this study proposes enlightenment of critical thinking in the curriculum design and implementation.
This study evaluated the learning methodologies used to teach critical thinking in higher education. The results of this study show that the most common methods used in universities critical thinking educators give lectures and tell stories. Also, the results showed that these methodologies are most effective for critical thinking. In addition, the methods used the most effective techniques considered by teachers are consistent. Research results showed that the relationship between the most effective methodologies under consideration and critical the concepts of thinking differ depending on the methods. Teachers believe that the most effective reasoning/reasoning, questions/demands are evaluation, follow-up and feedback. Another methodology has differences between different categories of critical thinking concepts.
Measures should be taken to encourage and improve teacher training in terms of value, importance and value of critical thinking and methodology that can build a structure this ability in the academic development of students. This is a very important question, because not all teachers can be aware of the importance of the methodologies they apply and the application form, which is limiting the study in the same way. Also, for authentication, compare the share of universities in development of critical thinking, more research needs to be done based on this research or in additional areas because critical thinking is an important ability for university students to grow individually and professionally.
The learning received in schools serves multidimensional purposes. It shapes your interests, future plans, career plans and personality. This cannot be achieved solely through the school curriculum, but rather through a combination of academic study and the development of life skills such as critical thinking.
There is a difference between memorization and learning. That difference lies in critical thinking. Everything you learn in school can have practical implications in your professional life. You must have critical thinking skills to not just follow ideas or facts, but to find meaning and connection between them.
It helps to form relevant arguments, find errors in reasoning, and synthesize solutions to problems. It is important that you develop this skill while still in school, because as you progress, life becomes more difficult when you make choices, such as choosing a major in education or starting your own business in the future. Critical thinking skills will help you make decisions.
