Lesson 15

Date: Monday, December 15th to Friday, December 19th

Team teachers: Mrs. Ali & Mrs. Al Sakhawy

Grades: 6, 7, & 8

Culture: Learn about holidays in the Arab world by Listening to two Arabic songs about holidays, and learn some new Arabic words

Objectives:

  • Sharing with students their celebration of Christmas.

  • Giving them an idea about holidays in the Arab world : Muslim and Christian.

  • Listening to Arabic Music and learning a song in Arabic about Christams and holidays in general

  • Through this song they will be introduced to new Arabic words : Rab , Al Eid .Farha , agmal , gameela , zekra , ba3d , Ghanoo , oolou , Barkou , hanou. Leylet , Shajara,

ashab , welad , al hedaya ….etc

  • Giving them the lyrics of the song written in English.

Materials:

  1. Overhead projector

  2. Videos of the songs

Standards:

  1. Interpersonal communication

  2. Understanding culture and social interaction

Procedures:

  1. First We will congratulate them in Arabic for the Christams “ EId Saeed “ Happy holidays.

  2. Then we will tell them that Christmas and Eastern is celebrated in the Arab world and talk about how they are celebrated.

  3. Asking them to tell us how they celebrate both.

  4. Also , we will mention that Muslims also celebrate two holidays : Bireme and breaking the fast Eid and will explain what these two holidays are .

  5. We will start listening to a beautiful song about Christmas and explain what it says

  6. Finally we will listen to a song that talks about celebrations about Eids in general

  7. We will ask them while listening to write down the words that they could identify

  8. We will listen to their responses and explain what these words are

  9. They will write down the words they have learned: Al Eid and whatever words they will respond to. If not then we will give them some of the words mentioned above

  10. The lyrics of the two songs will be given to them and they will be asked to choose one to practice

  11. They will also listen and learn that there are different Arabic dialects and that the ones they have listened to are Egyptian and Lebanese

Closure:

  • Asking some students to stand up and read the lyrics they have listened to

Homework:

  • Choosing one of the two songs and learning it over winter break.
