Queries whose name begins with jsmad. Primary contact is Christy Comer comerca@jmu.edu and Joe Hinshaw hinshamj@jmu.edu. In some of the jsmad queries, the following plan numbers are hard coded: ('0000067700','0000068000','0000008650') (Section last updated 5/2/2018.
jsmad01(NTS): Enrollment requirements by grp. Prompts for a term and a single course subject. Returns all requirements attached to the returned courses.
jsmad02 (TS): Requirements met by courses. Contains no prompts. Returns aggregate data based upon the degree progress requirement numbers provided by the office of the registrar ('000001352','000001541','000001542','000002596','000003065','000003113','000001496'). Returns both MET and NEED values.
jsmad02a (TS): Similar to jsmad02; all of the requirement details have been removed. The results show aggregates for ALL active students who have the above listed degree progress requirements.
jsmad03 (TS): SMAD grads and going to grad. Data for those conferred a degree (graduates) vs. those still active in their academic program (but have applied to graduate) are in separate locations. The only purpose of this query is to combine the two sources. Three term prompts are present. An expected graduation term (student must be a current SMAD major and must have applied to graduate), a graduated term and a expected gradution Summer term.
jsmad04 (TS): SMAD FA, never taken course. Prompts for the current academic term and a course. Returns SMAD majors who are fully admitted and have never taken (nor transferred/tested from) the given course.
jsmad05 (TS): SMAD fully admitted. Prompts for a term. Returns a detailed list of SMAD majors who are fully admitted.
jsmad06 (TS): SMAD FA, never/ever taken. Similar to jsmad04; allows a course which they have EVER taken as well.
jsmad07 (NTS): Bio summ by plan/sub range. Prompts for a range of terms. Returns aggregate biographical/demographical data about the SMAD majors for the given term range.
jsmad08 (NTS): SMAD class roster. Prompts for a term and a course. Returns just the SMAD majors enrolled in the given course.
jsmad08a (TS): SMAD101/TRN >=30 TRN hrs. Is hard coded to return anyone taking SMAD101 for the given term who has >= 30 total transfer hours and whose admit type=TRN (aka NOT a first year student).
jsmad09 (NTS): SMAD grad by date, SMAD ttl. Prompts for a degree conferred date range for SMAD majors. Returns basic graduation data along with a count of all courses and the total number of units taken whose subject was SMAD/GSMAD.
jsmad10 (NTS): Grads by date/plan subj taken. Similar to jsmad09. Instead of aggregating the course data, this version returns course enrollment data for the given course subject. IF the subject is left blank, it will return ALL course for the given graduates, which may be a long list.
jsmad11 (TS): SMAD scholarship data. Prompts for a term. Returns data used to determine eligibility for SMAD scholarships (per Christy Comer).
jsmad12 (TS): Going to grad, course analysis. Prompts for a term. Includes a count of the number of SMAD hard coded courses (provided by Christy Comer) they have both passed (or are enrolled in a future term) as well as a count of the # of passed courses.
jsmad13 (TS): Creative advertising crs anal. Prompts for a term. Returns active creative advertising students and indication of their status in 89 different courses. The character return for each course will be one of the following values:
jsmad13a (TS): DVC crs anal. Similar to jsmad13, but the course analysis is for those active in the Digital Video and Cinema concentration.
jsmad13b(TS): Similar to jsmad13, for interactive design concentration students.
jsmad13c (TS): for journalism concentrators.
jsmad14 (NTS). Failed SMAD courses. Prompts for a graded term. Returns all students who did not earn credit in a course whose subject=SMAD.

Queries whose name begins with jte. Primary contact is John Vaughan vaughajj@jmu.edu. Section last updated 3/29/2012. Although SOME of the 250+ queries in this series were written by Pete DeSmit, a majority were written and or modified by John Vaughan. These 250+ queries are not documented here.
Theatre and Dance
Queries whose name begins with jtad. Primary contact is Ruben Graciani graciarg@jmu.edu. Section last updated 5/21/2018. As is the case with several of the query series, many of the jtad queries documented below were created/cloned for ease of running for the user. In most cases, the jtad queries have 8 hard coded academic plan numbers (see table below). In almost all cases, a “major” @ JMU will be known by at least two different 10 digit academic plan numbers; the degree seeking, and the non degree seeking (AKA the 2nd major). The data for TAD is a case in point. In 2017, a CVPA only application process was implemented. Some of the fields present in the jtad queries will make reference to UGA (Undergraduate Admissions) fields vs. CVPA fields. This may appear confusing to the user, but there are in fact, two different application processes due to CVPA’s need for different business processes.
jtad001 (NTS): TAD students in summer crses. Has a single value prompt. Returns a simple aggregate count of the total number of each TAD concentration students enrolled in one/more courses for the given term. ANY term can be entered.
jtad002 (TS): TAD apps by term; few fields. Prompts for an admit term. Returns those applicants who, from the JMU Office of Undergraduate Admissions perspective, have matriculated. From the CVPA application perspective, their application status must be either accepted or admitted.
jtad003 (NTS): acad plan summary data. Prompts for a range of terms. Returns aggregate counts of each major. In THIS case, the degree and non degree seeking academic plan numbers have been combined so they appear as one “major”.
jtad003a (NTS): Graduates by plan summary. Very similar to jtad003; graduates are conferred degrees based upon a date. This query prompts for a date range vs. a range of academic terms.
jtad004 (TS): TAD majors, detail data. Prompts for a single academic term. Returns details for students in any of the academic plans listed above.
jtad005 (TS): Course progression data. Returns data for ALL active students in the three plans: ('0000077600','0000013000','0000069750') and ALL courses they’ve ever taken @ JMU. Returns a count of the # of students who took the respective course, and what academic level they were when the course was taken. Sorts in descending order by the total count.
jtad008 (NTS): CHP for theatre. Prompts for a single academic YEAR. Returns Credit Hour Production data used for the HEADS annual survey. All courses whose subject=THEA are selected.
jtad008a (NTS): Distinct count for theatre. Prompts for an academic year. Returns a distinct count of the total number of students (regardless of their major) who took a THEA course. Used for the HEADS annual survey.
jtad009 and jtad009a (NTS): similar in all manners/logic to jtad008/a, but for the academic plans and courses associated with dance vs. theatre. Used for the HEADS annual survey.
jtad010a (NTS): Grade summary all TAD. Prompts for a single graded term. Has hard coded logic to return all grades for courses whose subject is either thea or danc. Also includes the two cross listed courses: ENG347,ENG447. Returns grade distribution results for these courses.
jtad011 (TS) requirements met by courses. Contains no prompts, is only valid for current active students. Contains a list of 17 hard coded degree progress requirement numbers. Returns aggregate results of how currently active students met those degree progress requirements. The “Total NEED” column indicates the total number of active students who have the listed degree progress requirement NOT met. Due to the nature of DP requirements, a student can (normally) meet a requirement by taking more than one course from what is known as a course list. If a student has not met a DP requirement, and that requirement can be fulfilled by 9 (or 99) different courses, that student will be included in the “Total NEED” column for all 9 courses since there is no way to know how a student may meet the DP requirement.
jtad012 (NTS): Theatre plans aggregate data. Contains no prompts, is only valid for currently active students. See previous reference to the 8 hard coded academic plan numbers, which this query contains. Contains aggregate counts of the number of students who graduated (from forever), discontinued (from forever) and are currently active. A row of data whose status <> Active indicates that combination of plan and subplan (AKA concentration) are no longer offered.
