Sign-in sheets, nametags, photographs, telephone calls, news articles and visual observations were used to further document meeting diversity and attendance.
FRESNO
The EJ Coordinator worked with the Pan Valley Institute, sponsored by the American Friends Services, to identify the different immigrant populations such as Mexican, Mexican indigenous, Latino and Southeast Asian community groups such as the Hmong, Laotian and Vietnamese.
The EJ Coordinator acquired Odyssey's community-based organizations listing which was compiled as part of the Community Transit Project outreach and public participation efforts.
The District NAL worked with system Planning and the District Native American Coordinator to compile a listing of the federal non-recognized California Native American Tribes within Fresno. There are more non-recognized Tribes than federally recognized Tribal Governments in Fresno.
The Department’s Fresno National Native American Month Celebration was held on Thursday, November 13, 2003. The celebration was held behind the District office and offered cultural and educational exhibitions, foods, music and dancing. The purpose was to educate Department staff of the existence of the different Native American Tribal Governments, CBOs and communities throughout Fresno. In addition, it was an attempt to introduce Department staff to the communities and to update and compile contact information.
Transportation Planning staff worked with Fresno West Coalition for Economic Development (FWCED) as part of the West Fresno Community Vision Plan to identify community leaders and community-based organizations in West Fresno. These populations are representative of the African American, Latino and Southeast Asian community groups.
The District Transportation Planning staff has acquired Kern COG EJ listings of organizations and EJ Task Force membership for the purpose of public participation and outreach efforts.
The District EJ Coordinator has worked with the Community Alliance which represents labor unions, the Pan Valley Institute, an immigrants rights organization, the Fresno Regional Foundation, the Fresno Business Council, the Latino Issues Forum Environmental Health Advisory Committee and the Central Valley Air Quality
Coalition for public participation and outreach efforts by having Department related plans, programs and activities, publicized in their periodical e-mail notices, listings and announcements.
District staff attended the Latino Issues Forum's Latinos and Environmental Health in the San Joaquin Valley Conference to introduce individuals and organizations in the Latino community. The conference included Southeast Asian and African American individuals and organizations as well.
The DNAL is a member of the Fresno COG EJ Task Force to identify EJ community members and to develop policies that will support involvement of the Tribal Governments, women, minority, disabled, and the elderly communities.
The EJ Coordinator met with the US Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Specialist on January 20, 2004, for assistance in identifying minority communities throughout the San Joaquin Valley.
LOS ANGELES and SAN BERNARDINO
Sign-in sheets, visual observations and data collection requesting voluntary information was conducted at the public meetings.

Cards that provided Title VI related demographic information were available at several public meetings. All publications have information printed on them regarding receiving alternate formats or special accommodations at meetings. One of the larger public meetings utilized automated polling technology to gather demographic information on the audience.
