The ISP support started in 2005, to the common research group IPICS LAO:01, but has from 2006 been separate to the groups LAO:02 and LAO:03. From 2012 the groups were again combined under the code IPICS LAO:01.
The research group was since April 2008 led by Ms Vanseng Chounlamany, following unfortunate illness of the original group leader. From December 2009, the group is led by another female staff member, Dr Kesiny Phomkeona, after her return from PhD education in Japan (outside of ISP support).
Objectives
Since chemical contaminants in foods and environment have become promising problems in Laos. Our goals therefore aim to enhance our research capacity on chemical contaminants analysis in foods and environmental samples in Laos. Local scientists are expected to be developed in order to maintain a sustainable testing system. The plans will be carried out by holding some short-term seminars or trainings by well-trained group members. In addition, the project provides opportunities to undergraduate students to get involved in the research works in order to support their final projects for graduation. The project, moreover, aims to disseminate our research achievement and provide some research consult or testing services to other sections outside university.
